Asking for a friend. My friend has an offer from Expedia. She is worried after hearing about so many companies layoff news and thinking whether to join or not. Anyone know from Expedia know if there is any internal news of layoffs/restructuring after recent earnings?
Amazon to Expedia, maybe not but Expedia non core is very chill
Not during recession. They will be the first to trim budget and layoff
What? All these other companies doing layoffs and Expedia is not one of them yet so how can you say they will be first lol.
Wrong. Nobody has been laid off.
Expedia earning is actually good. Just released today
If that’s the best offer then go for it. Far better (and safer) companies than Expedia out there
Like Amazon ?
Nordstrom vs Expedia which one would you say is safer and better :)
Expedia laid off shit ton of folks during the pandemic when travel was restricted. They maintained normal hiring levels while attrition was super high. But the leadership is super duper incompetent. They change the direction like every quarter. They usually have good earnings mostly due to travel flourishing post covid. Basically if anything goes sideways I am sure they’ll layoff because of their incompetence in cost savings or innovating/improving their services. So join at your own risk.
Wow Expedia did not layoff during pandemic. We had a layoff right before but that was because of restructuring. Whole different reason. Even in covid times when there was no business, Expedia survived and didn’t layoff. Yes there are attrition issues and some other issues but thats a different story.
Restructuring my ass. Bruh I was at Expedia and the layoffs are public. Not sure why you would defend that shit. Idk why people try n cover stupid shit that companies do when you are the one that gets fked when the time comes. I left for a reason. Keep eating the peanuts that expedia feeds you but don’t lie and screw others.
I got laid off from Expedia in late feb. Was pretty shitty the way they handled it. Barry Diller is a moron and shouldn’t be running that company. Only reason Expedia does well is because of Vrbo. Once vacation budgets get cut next year, the layoffs will happen.
This year Feb ? I thought there were no layoffs at Expedia after that big one.
@noroeqwe sorry, Feb of 2020
Join at your own peril. They laid off during pandemic and this time it's worse. However, this applies to all the employers at this time but some large corps are better of holding jobs than Expedia does.
Don’t you think pandemic hit travel industry hard than anything else. With everything being closed they literally didn’t have any business. At least in case of recession without any travel restrictions people who want to and can afford will still be doing it.
There were no layoffs throughout the whole pandemic
Not true, there were numerous smaller scale layoffs after the pre-pandemic 10-15% cut. I was laid off end of 2020 as almost my entire business unit (~80 people) were let go.
Layoffs were before Covid to improve efficiencies, which really played out. New CEO came in, said I am going to cut costs significantly even after the layouts (I thought this is nonsense and just a market stunt, I was wrong). The costs were cut down by almost a B$. The new vision they have is very interesting and is exciting the investors quarter after quarter. No layoffs news in the earnings call. They got even stronger post covid (traffic recovery is a part reason). But with oil prices dropping, inflation contained its only going to get better. Also, along with other FAANG+T they froze hiring, more focused on over all efficiency than before. If you still have the offer, that’s cool. See if you can play a significant role in the team, if yes, you are surely safe and sound…just get in….it’s what you make of yourselves than anything else. People have already baked in recession in 2023 in financial planning and are not talking about layoffs. Good Luck!
