Got offer from both and want to know which one is better to join - 1. Expedia - Sr SWE TC - ~$320k 2. Walmart - Staff SWE TC - ~$350k Parameters to compare - 1. Culture - work, career growth, tech opportunities 2. Stability - recession proof (Walmart seems safer) Have FAANG only experience for last 7 years. Current TC - š„ #tech #walmart #expedia
Expedia better WLB
Recession proof is pretty big right, especially since the travel industry is the opposite
Except they posted their highest numbers ever in Q3. People always save and spend on vacations
That's fair for now but we aren't really seeing big unemployment numbers yet and people are still making up for lack of travel during the pandemic. If we get into a prolonged recession you can bet that they'll be cutting travel before groceries.
I believe I saw a ~440k TC Walmart staff SWE offer several days ago.
That is Principal range
Walmart in this economy
Walmart Hoboken pays max 180 base to Staff engineer with 25k stock annually. Whatās ur location
You are underpaid. Are you in Sriniās org ?
Why people are taking names here?
Some of Expedia tech is really old code base from when they spun off from Microsoft so depends on the team but you could be dealing with that so opportunity may not be great for learning/ keeping up to date on things
I can imagine walmart has some dated code bases as well
Probably should take the senior offer then over staff. Better career growth long term even if there are layoffs. Which Expedia has performance based layoffs quarterly generally. There's no minimum but if you don't pull your weight for a while you'll get let go
Great Expedia offer for senior. whats the location & breakdown?
Walmart is blue chip company. People still shop there for groceries and supplies, and every now and then, maybe dodge a bullet or two by a shooter. Plenty safe.
Expedia for wlb and current stock price
Make this a poll bro!
