They understood exactly what fossil fuels would do to the climate. Then they spent the next thirty years casting doubt about global warming to protect their profits even as they saw that their forecasts of the impact of fossil fuels were coming true. https://amp.theguardian.com/business/2023/jan/12/exxon-climate-change-global-warming-research
😂 what were people going to do? Stop driving? You couldn’t get the average Californian to bike even a mile.
Had we started working on alternative energy solutions in a big way 20 years earlier than we did then we would certainly have better options by now than we do We could have invested more in making nuclear power safe, for example.
Miniaturization of electronics created a market for portable electronic devices, which created demand for efficient battery technology, which eventually brought us EVs. EVs with 1980s battery technology would have been shit (and they were, see GM EV1).
So if that is bad what about the chemtrails? Chemical companies dumping their waste in the air cause in waters it dont fit anymore
The extent of chemical waste dumping by California companies is staggering. They're still finding immense amounts of chemical waste off the coast. Most notable is tens of thousands of Montrose Chemical Co DDT barrels
And worse thing is that they are not being held accountable because they buy the politicians out. And it affects us all.
To understand why ExxonMobil has been so effective at shaping the US narrative about climate change in the US for some 40 years, look no further than the words of one of the company’s communications strategists, Mobil Vice President of Public Affairs Herbert Schmertz: ”Your objective is to wrap yourself in the good phrases while sticking your opponents with the bad ones,” he wrote in 1986 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vox.com/platform/amp/22429551/climate-change-crisis-exxonmobil-harvard-study One 1982 internal memo writes what the company never admits publicly, that “the connection between Exxon’s major businesses and the role of fossil fuel combustion in contributing to the increase of atmospheric CO2.”
Real bad news for here is things are getting worse and not a lot is being done to correct the course.Just look at the mega storms in California. More of this in the future and no place will be safe. You can deny science all you want but science doesn't give a fuck if you believe it or not. We're in for some bad times my dudes.
What are you going to do about it now? The suggestions from the major climate activists will result in starvation and lack of affordable energy. Also, wind and solar, while decent sources of power under the right conditions, are more damaging and expensive than many of the alternatives.
Sue them for trillions in damages and use the money to remediate what we can?
In 1970s they’d have been branded as climate change deniers with these predictions: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_cooling
They internally knew about global warming at the executive level by 1981, seven years before it became public knowledge.
Global warming is new fad, back then everyone and their cat were concerned about global cooling
