10 yoe, 5 years at L5 and no sign of path to L6. Project priorities changed due to larger cloud initiatives. Effectively means no credit as no landing. Can folks list companies which are still hiring for staff level positions? I am willing to take risk and switch in this economic environment as well. #engineering Update: Since so many of you asked: TC: 450k Also current TC is secondary to me. Willing to move at a lower TC if it means growth. IMO Optimizing for current TC is myopic. Optimizing your career for growth i.e. learning and scope will eventually pay off big time. #software #google

Why Pronouns shit captured US ? I don’t see this anywhere else
Am not coasting. Would’ve been fine if that was my intention.
An engineer complaining about no work is actually the one doing the work but getting caught in low value fake projects. I understand what OP is saying here. Maybe you should be willing to take a downgrade in pay if you want to do real work.
You're not the only one. I quit Google for the same reason. I know many others that did too. Even if you can't land a staff position, you'd get to a staff position faster anywhere else than trying to at Google even if you start now.
Try alphabet?
Is it easy to boomerang at google? You could try something else and Interview back for a higher position
Getting promoted to L6 and above requires massive effort. It is easier to switch to a new employer and re-interview at the desired position. As for openings, I dont have much idea but I think I saw several staff level openings at airbnb a few days ago.
This os true almost for every company
Tiktok, but thats an even bigger career suicide :)
Your TC is probably great, so who cares?
L5 is fine for 10yoe. It’s supposed to be hard to get to L6. Your expectations seem unrealistic.
Leave and you get a free promo. Nothing special about Google here, same advice applies everywhere. It's fine, now start interviewing.
