Hi there In spirit of helping people understand different viewpoints, If you voted for Trump/Republicans, and if you want to want to understand someone who did not (me), I hereby volunteer for a private chat or call. Various things about me: I immigrated to USA in mid 90ies on refugee status visa from former USSR I am a child of well-educated engineers, and grandson of 2 doctors of physics and 2 blue-collar barely educated people I think learning things, being educated about life and things and thinking for yourself is the most essential thing. I started but didn't finish university, instead went to work when landed in USA and been in software ever since I read voraciously and widely, including history, economics, politics, science, and sure, fiction. I am happily married with children to an American with roots going back to Declaration of Independence I do not believe in god and in our family we do not attend any churches. We do like visiting them as repositories of art and nice architecture I pay my taxes and think that they enable the maintenance of the complex state and civilizations. I may not enjoy that process but I know it is part of what makes us not live in a village surrounded by palisade I regularly write to my elected representatives. I have a passport and I travelled abroad extensively (France, England, Italy, Greece, Poland, Norway, Egypt, Israel, Saudi Arabia, China, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, plus most countries that used to constitute USSR) I appreciate that many things are complexity and try very hard not to be swayed by the short-attention memes I am very environmental and am in awe of America's past focus on conservation. Because I believe in science, I am very concerned about the planet's climate. I love skiing yet the future of that isn't looking bright. My knowledge of the current affairs comes from: The Economist, Foreign Affairs, The Atlantic, NY Times, Washington Post, BBC, The Stranger (local news), Seattle Times (local news), Wall Street Journal (financial part), Bloomberg (especially Money Stuff newsletter), Hacker News, Meduza.io, Lenta.ru for a view from outside of the country. I do not participate in any social media except for work profile on LinkedIn Finally, since this is Blind, and TC is apparently required. I am entirely self-made - I came to USA with $10 in my pocket and am worth about ~$2.5M with $310K TC. Maybe that's not the largest but I do okay. America has definitely been the land of opportunity for me and my family. I've voted in every election since becoming a citizen and very few of my votes have been for Rs. Back in Summer of 2016 I read and analyzed GOP platform as it was then (and still is now, it hasn't been updated) and wrote a 10 page letter describing my position on those points to all Rs in the Senate and some in Congress (in my state). I just re-read it in light of 2020 events and I'd be glad to discuss that and anything you want. My friends and wife think I will be flamed. Well. Yeah, that's very likely. But if you want an intelligent person's views that may not agree with yours, discussed calmly and reasonably, send me a DM and we can organize a call or teleconference. #elections #uspolitics
Good luck, and congrats on your success.
There's a lot of ussr refugees in Seattle that I know of, and they're all repubs and trump supporters. Regardless of how much money they make. Why do u think that is?
I’n not OP, but: Soviet Union was economically left but relatively conservative socially. Dems are socially liberal but much more conservative economically nowadays. So “gender and race equality” just does not resonate with ex-ussr immigrants. That’s exactly the same reason dems are keep loosing blue-collar workers.
What’s the purpose of life ?
