I'm Latin, like my partner and we plan to start a family in the next couple of years. We are thinking about relocating to Orlando or its surroundings due to the warm weather, having tons of things to do (Disney, beach, etc.), and being closer to big latin communities. On the other hand we never lived there. Does Orlando sounds like a good choice? Or maybe some nearby cities will make more sense? TC: 340K Thanks!
If you're moving your employeer might change your comp. Florida is good because there is no State income tax. I'd consider other cities there too such as Tampa
Why Orlando!! You can get all of that stuff and more in Puerto Rico. That would be my choice. Great food, great beaches, great people
Same here OP (Latin and going remote). Since you’re planning a family you should keep in mind school districts.
I live there as well. It really depends what you're into. Disney will probably get old incredibly fast. You'll be very well off here though. A very nice lake house mansion in the richer areas can start at 1-2 million, so you'll be able to afford pretty much anything. Food scene is medium to good.
Good points. Although I think anything can get old pretty fast. My thought is that at least there will be something different to do a few weekends per year.
So Google is allowing fully remote?
I read similar opinions before. That's also why I'm also looking into cities nearby that may be less crowded, safer and family oriented. Have you seen the same in the rest of central Florida?
No. Go to Tampa and live somewhere near Hyde Park. Great schools, safe neighborhood, easy access to healthcare, proximity to Ybor (great latin food/community), very close to downtown (most of the fun is just outside of downtown like armature and riverwalk) and Westshore (where you’d do most of your shopping). You’re right next to Clearwater and St Pete for beaches but close enough to Disney that it’s still an easy day trip.
Interesting. I was looking central Florida, farther from the coast, to avoid the hurricanes. Isn't that a big issue in all these Florida coastal cities? Or is it just me thinking this will disrupt your life very often?
New construction coastal houses are built to last. My parents had Irmas eyewall directly over their house when it was a high cat 2 and only lost power for 16hrs. My cousins 2 miles down the road didn’t even lose power. Central Florida had it hit as Cat 1 and rural areas lost power for weeks. Older central Florida homes aren’t built the same.
Wouldn’t recommend moving to orlando or anywhere west of downtown. That’s tourist hell. Lots of amazing places in the greater metropolitan area tho like winter park, lake Mary etc. feel free to pm me if you have questions about the different areas.
What the fuck Florida is the worst state in this country, by no means should anyone voluntarily move there. Spoken as someone who lived in central Florida for years. Florida is going to be reclaimed by the sea, bad place given the inevitable climate change. Full of backward Hicks and southern baptists. Stay the fuck away from Florida.
Orlando is an excellent choice! I was born here and have lived here most of my life. Spent a few years in Chicago, but missed Florida so I moved back.
Guy is a Floridian, can’t trust them for shit
