FAANG is FAANG
After years of trashing Amazon for PIP and bananas, Google for low balls, Meta for being evil and Netflix for going bankrupt, when the dust settles, FAANG is FAANG. For some reason for those couple of few years, food delivery and basic payment processing startups were revolutionary with all the paper money in the world. Now the valuations plummeted if private, the stock has crashed and not recovered if public, and they've faced massive layoffs. Microsoft, regardless of OpenAI or whatever, is still paying peanuts. Even mediocre retails banks like Capital One is instituting PIPs and layoffs. Disclaimer - I don't think getting into FAANG is worth fretting over or that FAANG engineers are better by virtue of having worked at FAANG.

Pretty much, ive been saying this for a while too. Also amazon is fine, other faangs also did layoffs and pip reminiscent strategies. The main difference between faang and everywhere else is the ridiculous pay.
Capital One is doing layoffs because all the dumped Amazon folks in DC area now work there, and they for some reason love pip and layoffs (even though they were all laid off themselves). Old habits die hard I guess

I disagree what makes credit card companies mediocre compared to FAANG? Absolutely nothing. Most of the dumbest posts I’ve read on blind have been from a FAANG employee. Also their PIPs and layoffs are the most toxic practices in the industry.
Not every credit card company is mediocre, but Capital One definitely is. Also tech-wise, given most credit card companies use AWS to build anything, it is significantly less complex than FAANG.

Microsoft has a hidden +100k of pay which is called “not having to work at Amazon”. So your point that it pays peanuts is false.
While I get the attempt at a joke, all things equal, Amazon pays much more than +100k at the equivalent level until you hit L8.
