Almost all revenue comes from 1-2 tricks. Nothing more. Prove me wrong Meta- Facebook, ads Apple- iPhone Amazon- Amazon.com, AWS Netflix- streaming Google- search, ads
You're only counting things that make significant profit. However if their services were outside the company they'd still get a billion+ dollar valuation even if they were losing money.
Counterexamples: Meta: Instagram Apple: Airpods (bigger revenue than Spotify, pre-Musk Twitter and Shopify combined) Google: YouTube, Cloud
Instagram - bought Airpods- negligible revenue considering 2T valuation Youtube- bought, also just ads; Cloud losing money and negligible revenue
Doesn't matter that it was bought, they identified the opportunity and built it into the revenue generating machine that it is. Cloud is not losing money for Google (it's been profitable for a few quarters already, and growing fast).
You mean like every company ever?
Literally who cares
Societal contributions = 0 to negative
How does Google search generate revenue that isnāt ad revenue?
Ads and search are codependent but different tech stack
You didnāt answer the question. How does Google search generate revenue independent of ad revenue?
I agree and have a theory. 'Innovation' is dime a dozen, but true invention is rare and mostly accidental. These companies had a couple of accidental breakthroughs, used that to create market monopolies, bought potential rivals early, hired potential competitors as employees and kept them busy with busy work and simply sat on revenue streams. If something revolutionary comes up, they will aquire it.
You may be right!
Hes 100% right. Just look at the meta reveal from the other day. Cool tech for sure and im glad the industry is being pushed, but does anyone really have any disillusions that this will ever be a consumer product? Nobody wants to wear a fuckin headset all the time and they never will. All of the tech that was showcased, the actual functionality, is problems that are solved else where that people already have in tvs and phones and tablets and laptops. There is nothing ānewā there. The tech is new and certainly groundbreaking but no average consumer is going to see that at their friends house and think, oh I NEED this like they did when their friends showed them the ipod for the first time. āHOW many songs does this thing fit?ā
Almost all good companies are 1 trick ponies. Conglomerates are the exception, but in the long term they fail to be dominant at anything.
This is what I was trying to confirm

āProve me wrongā You have to say something of value first
AWS is its own company its not a pony
Your 10-Q says you r wrong
Most ponies have no tricks at all. Two tricks is a very high achieving pony
