Got offer at a senior position in a non-profit company. They are offering much higher than my current base. But there is no other bonus(i.e., stock/sign-on). While interviewing with the company culture seems better than my amazon team. But I am not sure if moving to a mid level non-profit will be good for the career in long run. What do you all think?
If you were good enough to get into fang once then you can get in again; it’s not some secret club of elite engineers after all. Do what you think is best and aligns with your life right now. Many people leave for non profits and random smaller places after working at big tech. It’s normal to feel like you want to do something else in life after a while
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I’m trying to do the opposite and it’s impossible.
DMed you
I have seen it happen.
Which company?
Health care related one
was u laid off or u leaving normally?
Planning to leave normally. I haven’t accepted the new offer yet.
how much is not being oncall worth to u brah
Non profit will give you good WLB and stability in this market. You can later spin it the way you want it: I wanted to help the organization do xyz and now ready to get back to a for profit organization few years later.
This sounds quite compelling story! Thanks 🙏🏻
I would never work for a non profit again ever
Which one did you work for? Which domain? And why do you say that
Might be good move depending on age and other obligations like kids or aging parents.
Tc or gtfo
I worked a non profit (education sector) before this current job but wouldn't go back just for tc purposes. Took more TC and better wlb switching here so it can def vary.
How do you find these non-profits? LinkedIn?
Yes
OP can you give some pointers on how to find non-profits for SWEs/SDEs? Did you already know the one that you’re considering joining?
