What's the best way to get a foot in at FAIR? I'm finishing up a joint BA in math/MS in CS and I've heard apps submitted through company websites are tossed out usually.
Study French
Get a PhD focused on related machine learning / AI areas from a top tier institution, ideally with someone who was one of Yann's collaborators who can recommend you later.
I heard there were some positions available for undergrads/masters students. Is it just PhDs?
I'm not sure, I know the majority of the people in the group are either PhDs or experienced low-level systems engineers.
Go to academic conferences. We recruited from there when I was there and even now at Uber. Have a good publications record
There are SE's working in FAIR teams as well. You can get a job as SE at Facebook/FAIR and during Bootcamp work with FAIR teams. In this case you would usually work 1:1 with a Research Scientist on prototyping new ideas and taking them to production. If your interest, however, is in research, then a PhD/ papers in top conferences like NIPS, CVPR, ICLR would be a good way forward.
Get a PhD with as many top computer vision and machine learning conference papers as possible, ideally oral track. These are very competitive positions; you need to make yourself known to the world first.

Facebook AI Research
Probably should tag Facebook then. I thought it was some FANG-like acronym.
