Hi fellow blinders, if I could please get advice on my future career path I would really appreciate it. [My #1 goal is to get into FAANG and maximize TC.] I recently just started as a new-grad at a defense contractor think [Lockheed Martin - Northrop Grumman] However, I want to transition into FAANG. I am also enrolled in a part time masters in CS program at a highly reputable university. Which approach is more ideal? # 1: Apply to FAANG internships then bail on my full-time new grad job to get in this way? # 2: Work for 1 year while leet coding 20 hours a week and get in by applying to early career roles? Is the masters program worth my time / really gonna help me into FAANG at this point? I would really appreciate your advice. Biggest tip: donβt get lazy at Northrop. It is very easy to lol. At least donβt get lazy with studying, try to have a cumulative learning and projects for the next 1-2 years and fang is piece of cake
FAANG is easier to get into when you have more years of exp. If you are fine staying at NG for a few years, LC hard and progress your career there (despite it being snails pace). Then, when you feel ready, you can easily target L4 at many FAANG companies. Masters is worth if you didnt already have a job since you can break into l4 with less years, as you already have started your career it wont help that much. Having a FAANG on your resume will eclipse whatever education you have and degree will only help to appease terrible hiring managers and startups that put a lot of weight on people coming from shit like Harvard Note you can still LC hard and try for 1-2 yoe positions but your competition is very prepared, and will have FAANG internships. Easiest path: get internship at Amazon.
Thank you for the reply π
