Are you freaking kidding me? Google India $105k is any day a better offer. Trust me, you have better life in India for sure. A family friend moved to India although she got transferred from Google Mountain View to Bangalore. Not once she has regretted her decision. Except traffic, you have literally nothing to complain about; it’s not any better here these days and you can beat that problem by staying close to office.
You get maid help to do all your chores, literally everything. Add to that, food, parents, friends and relatives.. nothing can beat that!

And yeah.. if you are on H1B, god save you. Even if you get 500k base, you will still be crying when it comes to immigration. Remember the news recently when a Washington family was stranded in India because of immigration issues and they couldn’t return to the US. He had a PhD if I’m right and had many technical journals and patents if I’m right.(I might be wrong as well). But his was a pretty damn good profile and was here since 20 years and still crying because of the broken immigration system.
You won’t have that headache in India if you are an Indian citizen by birth of course.

Why would you leave a 105k offer in India? Unless you are a US citizen or have some clear path to GC/citizenship, id enjoy the high TC/CoL ratio in India.

I know several FB E5s and none of them lead particularly good lives lol.

But jokes aside, consider the increased stress of FB E5, visa status, CoL adjustment, etc. Assuming FB is MPK, you’ll have to downsize on your home if you want to send your kids to good public schools. Labour is more expensive so if you want to keep maid service, cooking, etc budget for it. I guess if money is all you care about then take FB, but keep in mind the additional expenses.

If you tend to have more luxurious tastes such as expensive cars and frequent vacations, then definitely take FB though, because all those things cost way more in India.

Ok, but still consider the other factors that affect even a single person (visa, work pressure, etc.) the best way is to do the research ahead of time into how expensive it will be in Bay Area, and figure out how much money you can save. It will make it easier to choose

Single guy can move to USA and get the nice TC offered by fb..possibly even save a lot by being frugal. Savings will be same as staying in India living king size? CoL is high in CA.

But social scene takes a huge hit. Op, get a girlfriend before you move to USA or be prepared to be single for a long time.
My bro did this and is now in late thirties and still signle. He could either work his ass off to keep his job or try hard at the limited pool of girls. He tried latter a bit (just a bit) and fell behind at work.
No job also means no chick, so ....

My mom thinks moving to USA was the wrst thing to have happened to him. Luckily for me, I managed to sweet talk my wife into marrying me and accompany me to USA just as I was contemplating moving to India.

And oh I didn't even bring up the enternal wait for the GC 🙄.

Until a few years back coming abroad made sense, at least financially. The difference was enough to compensate for the other losses - away from friends and family and where basic infrastructure like electricity and water were unreliable.

Fast forward a few years, the incomes have increased substantially. The infra is better. The work is also no longer consistently second grade work.

I give this feedback to all my cousins who occasionally get curious about coming to USA for work.. I tell them it isn't worth it anymore

At least for fb they set high goals for new hire l5. If you don't meet them then layoff after 1/2 perf cycle is inevitable. No free lunch tbh

It's not that bad. Since you are single w/ no dependency it's worth a try to stretch for higher position in ladder. Several years later with dependencies it's nearly impossible to move away from Google l4 india

Can u really speak for other companies? I don’t think lay-off happens a lot for Amazon l6. But I’m concerned about fb, since I’ll join soon.

Isn't 105k in India is living like a king kind of money? Never been there but I'd assume so. The immigration is a fucking mess and adds a lot of stress on top of already stressful job at fb. You'd have a lot more room for growth in us though. Tough call.

Given the fact that home prices are at same level as most midwestern cities, i don't think it is that high.

Have you worked with Amazon with in the last 3 years? Have you talked to the recruiter about your L1 visa? I am not sure if you can get H1B.
