Modi is a legend, will be remembered for centuries to come
I have 2 offers for ~225k in Austin for either Google or Facebook L4/E4. Which is better long term? Looking to settle down and put out roots. Facebook seems better for working from home (E5+ can do so pretty easily) but Google for WLB. I have 2 small kids Yoe: 3.5 TC: 180k Seattle #fb #facebook #google
was it worth the nut 😋
For the first one yeah, still seeing for the second potato
I'd say Google. What's your new tc
Is google Austin in corpeng or are they starting to hire for different orgs as well?
Tc from each
Facebook will be faster initially but google will be the consistent balanced approach it seems you’re looking for. Congrats!
Smart man having kids early. Don’t listen to the 40 year old first time dads.
Yeah no way I would want to start having kids even at 30, I'm already feeling tired all the time
30? Ah shit yer old(er than I thought).
Facebook rescinded an offer just before joining. Just saying.
austin? what they said?
When and where?
Facebook is best for fast career growth (best for those early in their careers). Google is best pay for lower grind, which might be best for those mid-career that want more time outside of work. Neither FB nor Google are for everyone is the punchline. I personally cannot stand the slow career pace at Google.
How long it takes to get promoted at google in general if you are qualified and performing good with good goe
For early career high performers (<6 yoe): FB has twice a year performance reviews, so expect promos every 1.5-2yrs until you get to IC6. Google has yearly reviews and promos are every 2-3yrs from what I saw from colleagues there.
Op, is choose Google in your shoes: 1. You probably want better WLB with 2 kids, and G is more likely to have it. 2. If you are looking to our down roots and settle in an area G is less likely to pip you quickly. 3. G will enforce better development practices. 4. Con - FB allows more scope and faster career growth. More risky, but more rewards visa faster promo and higher performance multipliers.
I’d go FB first and G a year later if the experience at FB is bad, since both offers tend to be valid for a year. The reasoning here is you’re going from a tougher faster paced company to a slower more WLB friendly company. Then again, changing jobs is a challenge is G right away might make sense with 2 young kids
Just curious, how do you have 2 kids with just 3.5 yoe? You had a kid right when you started your career?
Yeah, I got married in college and had a kid 6 months after starting work then right at 3 years
Good question and happy that op already has 2 cute kids and you are making a right choice of setting in Austin !! Happy for you.
