I’m trying to negotiate my returning intern offer. My recruiter is telling me I need an offer higher than 215k TC, because 110k salary + 160k RSU/4yrs + 65k sign on = $215k first year. Is this correct? I don’t think a signing bonus should be included in “TC”. This seems like they’re overinflating the value of a signing bonus, because my 2nd year comp would be lower than 215. Context: I have an offer for $160k/yr all cash + $50k signing bonus, and she’s arguing that the fb offer pays me more, so there’s no room for negotiation.
Yeah you need to get better offers if you want more leverage.
Yes it is. You don't have to work a 2nd year.
Total comp is total comp. She said 215 is total comp for first year, not 2nd. So what's the prob?
The problem is that they’re using it as a basis for negotiation. e.g another company needs to offer a higher 1st year pay for negotiation.
No? Who says TC needs to be set in stone for more than per year basis. Just leave after 1 if your TC falls below what you started out with. I've never seen this happen though because of refreshers.
I think the recruiter is right when comparing with your competing offer. FB beats your other offer for first year. From 2nd year, there is no sign on for both of them. FB has yearly cash bonus and stock refresh. How about your other offer from 2nd year?
Yearly TC is 150k vs 160k and Facebook gives refreshers and higher year 1 TC. Not a lot of leverage. If it was 180 vs 150 you’d have more of an argument
Ask about refreshers and bonuses at fb. The sign on bonus does reappear
