interviewing there for a design role, but no offer yet. Is this a dumb move? has anyone done this switch?
LinkedIn WLB is horrible. Stay away.
But someone said LinkedIn has good WLB in another post. Somebody’s lying to me...
@weedmaps, please believe everything you read on blind. It's all 100% true
Is its data infra then it makes sense. Wlb is great. There are tons of interesting problems to solve and a lot of good distributed systems to learn. However pay is not as great as fb but definitely better than a lot of other companies out there
Thanks. I heard in some cases pay can be more
LNKD is full of idiots now. Started about 2 years ago. I noticed many of my co-workers who were low performers went there.
Isn't being an idiot in a fun chill company BETTER than working at a toxic has been php site where product decisions are based on likes ?
Not really. When you're surrounded by idiots, you slowly become one yourself. Toxicity builds character 😂
Fb’s code is crap I heard. All the time firefighting and trying to do crap to create impact. The interviews are also very easy these days. I have interviewed tons of fb people in the last 1 year. Everyone thinks it’s a horrible place to work. You get paid a bit high for compromising a lot of things
It sounds like you don’t know what you want. If LinkedIn has something that will make you happy and you are not happy where you are now then do it. Why care what we think? Threads like these just scream troll me please
The thread has been helpful. Hearing other perspectives and experiences gets me out of my head.
Fair enough but first spend time digging deep to figure out what you want and why move
One thing's for sure, the HOURLY wage in LinkedIn is better
Why do you think that? We work long hours. Not sure why people said this when they don’t even work here
Hmm.. I’m curious how anything gets done at LinkedIn. The folks go to that company to just chill and recruiters sell the roles for its WLB, and everything is centered around not working. 🤔 Not sure how long this can go on.. I know a half a dozen people that work there go work at 11 and come back at 4
That’s what I heard and that’s why I joined but not the case for sure. My team works 10+ hours.
If you count all the holidays, and in days and a 2 week vacation we literally don’t work 33% of the time in a given year.. Also I hate the amount of collaboration/consensus that must be reached for design...
OP, I would avoid making this move unless you’re getting a huge bump in level or getting pip’d at fb or something. Designers at li seem pretty hit or miss and in general they don’t really have a seat at the table when it comes to shaping product roadmaps (everything is super analytical/growth hacky). For all the proof you need, spend some time tapping around the mobile app and count the number of front end/ui bugs you can find.
TC -> TC can only tell if it's dumb or not.
