FB vs Asana

Note, not at Lyft anymore, this was from my internship days. Currently am a T4 at FB making about 340K total comp (including stock appreciation and performance (double EEs), before was like 290K). Recently got an offer at Asana for 320K as a T5. I like Asana because everyone says really good things about it (love the “our blind isn’t active because no one has things to complain about). I’d also be joining a new org they’re forming which is pretty cool too. My concerns are 1) pay cut kinda sucks, and 2) wonder if their valuation is too rich? Also would stop me from interviewing at some of these super hot pre IPO companies (obviously no guarantee I could get in/none I’m super in enamored with). Would love to hear from some Asana people about their experience and what are the bounds for T5 pay. Targeting like at least equal to current, but ideally 360-380k. #asana #facebook

4.5

How did you retain your old blind account from an internship over 4.5 years ago?

Brillio pltrclan Apr 5, 2021

Asana has a crazy work from office policy.. Think before you commit

Can you elaborate on this? Do you mean that you can never work from home (even say for a day or two a month)?

Brillio pltrclan Apr 5, 2021

One or two days a month might be okay, but their offer letter specifically calls out working from office.

Why would you even consider taking a pay cut paid in options?

Hoping to get some insight for negotiation

Bc it’s not paid in options, what are you talking about

valuation wise, i'd compare them to how slack was valuated. Seems cheap in comparison to others. Product wise it's def better than Jira. I think Asana treats people better than FB though so that's also you have to think about. I'm not sure if T is similar to L, but I do know someone at Asana L5 making 500K TC asked original offer was 400K TC bay area

Thanks for this, was really insightful

I think you can negotiate for more. 350-380k should be possible. Not having competing offers may be an issue but try to use current tc as leverage. Valuation wise I think 5b~6b is fair. P/S just above 20 which is not high at all consider their good net retention, growth rate and gross margin. A 'fair' valuation in the current market means the market has concerns about competition/execution and all that but also means there's good upside if the vision is executed well.
