Hello there! My offers: FB Seattle - E4 ~284k (167/400/75). Snap Seattle - L4 ~365k (190/700/0). G CA - L5 waiting for numbers. SWE with 7 YOE. TC 140k. My thoughts: FB: I've always been a top performer but I've worked only for startups and little companies. But anyway I'm taking all these PIP stories with a grain of salt. I think I just need to choose a team carefully and I should be fine. Also FB's culture resonates pretty well with me: the more you work, the more you get. I feel that I was downleveled but promotion is not a problem there. I should be able to prove my real level quick. And It's better to come in high at a lower level and get promoted quickly than under-perform at a higher level and get PIP'd, isn't it? My only concern is the public outlook of the company. I don't care about prestige or public opinion but the stock price. Snap: Well, to be honest I like money. And I've read a lot of positive things about Snap on Blind. But I'm not sure whether they survive the recession. I've spent a lot of time preparing for all these interviews. I don't want to go through such a challenge again in the next few years. And the volatility of their stocks looks like a gamble: high risk with possible high reward. But I'm not a gambler. G: Yes, they are really slow. And I think Google is already overrated. Sounds like there are not many opportunities for growth. But I like their high engineering standards. I'd like to choose a place where I can happily work with reasonable wlb for the next 3-4 years. Any thoughts? Thanks! #facebook #snap #google
Definitely G L5
Congratulations. Can you briefly tell about your preparation? How many LCs, what did you use for Sys Design? And I voted for snap :-) .
Real question.
Thank you! I've spent about 3 months on preparation: 1) Coding: Elements of Programming Interviews + Leetcode Premium. Solved 200+ problems. 2) Behavioral: I spent almost 2 weeks thinking about my experience, writing down answers for typical behavioral questions, and rehearsing them. 3) SD: It was the biggest problem. I'm a mobile engineer. There are not many preparation materials. I spent a lot of time thinking about designs for different popular applications. Practiced mock interviews with my friend. Also, I paid for 2 mock interviews with FANG engineers. But their feedback was mixed. I think each interviewer/company has different expectations and you should ask what is important for your interviewer all the time.
Are you kidding me? G L5.
G L5 is harder to achieve than the other 2.
I agree. But it doesn't mean I should choose them. I'm not very excited about teams I was matched with. And I live in Seattle. Is G L5 really worth it?
People usually can't get L5 at g when they get E4 in fb. Its usually fb and other companies give higher level.
G L5 looks good. Don't hurt to join for a year then discover what is coming next TBH
There is one thought about TC. The first year TC in FB is ~360k that is almost equal to the first year TC in Snap. If the next year I'm promoted to E5 TC should be around 360k again (200k base + 30k bonus + 100k initial RSU + 30k the 1st year refresher, please correct me if I'm wrong). So probably I'm not losing much money if I choose FB over Snap. Now FB vs G. I'm doubting I can get 400k or more from Google. 400k in CA << 360k in WA. Any thoughts?
Snap has raises and refreshes. I heard the target refresh is 187K. So snap TC also increases a lot in the 2nd year if you meet expectations. E5 promotion in one year is a lot harder IMO.
Hey @Linkedin, you are right. HR told me the same. Also they give you refreshers each 6 months. So it's +23k each 6 months. But their stocks are not stable. This is my main concern. If I got this offer a month ago when their price was 8$ I would probably accept Snap's offer without any doubts. But now the price is around their historical maximum...
Snap for sure. Snap L4 is equal to the others and Snap L5 beats the others.
Correct! Snap L4 = Google L5
sorry unrelated question, but what was ur general preparation strategy? congrats on all the offers thought, excellent work!
Thanks! I answered to the similar question above.
Does G L5 have have higher expectation and more peer pressure? If op joins G as L5, report back and let us know
