FB: 118k base, 220k stock, 100k sign on, 10% perf (negotiated, return rockstar intern) G: 125k base, 260k stock, 50k sign on, 15% perf (negotiated hard) Facebook has faster promos so it will make up for the slightly lower initial grant very quickly. Google has a less tarnished name and intial higher grant. Vesting schedule is 25 each year Looking for insight. thanks so much Blind community!
Google’s vesting is slightly better than FB. No dumb blackout windows and instant monthly vesting. The refreshers at FB will be bigger. It depends what you want. If you want more of a grind culture (I would for my first gig), go FB. If you want great WLB at a respected company, go Google.
This is the only response needed for this thread.
it's not monthly - depends on the vest amount. doubt it applies to OP
Doesn't matter, have fun.
Is fb not matching G in terms of stock? Both the offers look good to me. U will be fine picking any one. I would incline towards fb for the below reasons. 1) fast pace environment: u will learn a lot in short term 2) faster promo process.
Thanks for posting. Facebook said they will not move stock. Have you seen stock be changed for new grad?
I dont have any data points. They did change for me because of multiple offers.
I agree with google guy, FB is better for early career growth. Go to G later for a more relaxed pace.
Don’t think so. I would suggest the opposite, early in your career is when you learn the software engineering idioms which G has a very good track record of. FB’s culture of move fast and break things is something that new grads should be wary of TBH.
Since OP is a returning intern that's proven himself, he will do well. I would hesitate to take any responses from people who haven't worked at either
Add a poll to the post. My vote is Google
Added. Please provide a justification if possible so I can see the logic behind your opinions
Both are great, congratulations! FB would be a better place to start like others said. Likely an easier place for you to fit in. The grind culture helps early in the career. Assuming you aren't affected by general public perception following the last election.
Thanks! That is the vibe I am sensing. I am not affected by it but I know others are. Thanks again for the input I appreciate it
Also, Google is much more structured. You will likely not appreciate this early in your career.
What’s your team match at Google? What you work on matters to a large extent to continue to grow your TC in future.
I was in similar shoes 10 months ago with exact same figures. I ended up picking Facebook and I believe I made the right decision. You internship gives you a headstart in this move fast culture and you can aim for one half promo. You can easily get promo in one year and make up for all this difference. Google promo cycles are slow. Depends what motivates you, few thousand dollars won't make much difference in the long run. Remember that it's a marathon, not a race. Listen to your heart and you'll have atleast one percent more inclination towards one of the companies and go there. It's a good problem to have, so don't stress on it.
Definitely fb first. Get senior or staff asap and when you’re tired, try to get an equivalent level at google for almost equal pay and better wlb
