Hello guys, I am an international student without green card, and I got the offer from Facebook and Bloomberg. I have heard that the WLB and culture is very good at Bloomberg. However, the career growth and branding of Facebook definitely exceeds over Bloomberg. On the other hand, the current PERM process in Facebook will take much longer, but Bloomberg said I have to stay one year then start my green card process. Also, I heard that Facebook is very pressure and would fire some poor performer. Is it the same situation for the new grad engineer? My personal priority will be: green card >>>> anything else Do you have any suggestions? Go for the company that helps you with the green card. Immigration is painful if it’s important for you, you want to make sure that’s knocked out first. At least get an I-140 for yourself to feel little less worried about immigration. TC can be chased later. Also, as long as your YOE < 4, you can always LC your way to any company.
I would prioritize to get green card. It will definitely make everything easier for you in the future.
People voting for FB don't know about the PERM issues
Isn’t it resolved now?
Technically but some people are still concerned. Also the process might be very slow. Doesn't affect me so I don't know all the details.
Bloomberg. New York + WLB+ roughly the same TC + more clear path to GC is worth. I would also try to negotiate to start your green card process early. If they know it’s a FB offer they probably won’t do it. But you never know, I’ve heard (although experienced) new hires negotiate that
When does bloomberg generally start green card process for internationals?
Bloomberg is a very very good company to be in if PERM is on your radar. Many of my best colleagues went through a similar experience and I've seen BB's resources put to work whenever complications arose. If you just wanted TC then you're correct, BB's growth is abysmal compared to Meta's, but I'd still recommend joining BB for your situation.
What is PERM?
Bloomberg is safer. You can stay for a couple years and then go to FB. I think there's a lot to learn in your first few years at Bloomberg, and their onboarding process is great. I'd advise you to start applying for new jobs in a couple of years though, there's not a lot of growth except management here after that...
Also, if you can avoid anything related to core terminal during team matching, you'll likely be happier here (I'm intentionally being too broad)
Bloomberg starts green card process after 1 year for college grads. So keep that in mind in your decision
U can go to Meta whenever u want
If you get H-1B, Bloomberg can start the process immediately afterwards. There is no one year waiting period in that case.
Tough call considering green card. But still I’d go with FB. Having that on your resume will open many doors.
