Hello JPMC fellows, how do you guys manage all these meeting whole day? Literally, its like software engineer are here to talk (90%) and work (5%) ? How do you grow technically here? Small code fix takes a months to go to production and nothing exciting project.. still everyone are busy! TC: ~170k #jpmc #worklifebalance #meetings
It’s the culture across the entire firm and roles. Which is why everything moves so slowly and even small things are hyped—it’s all people have time to actually accomplish outside of meetings.
My wife recently joined JPMC. Man what a mess it is. There are meetings to prepare for meetings, PowerPoint bs, very few good engineers. Managers only managing up. She is looking to go back to tech. She says it was one of her biggest career mistake.
i can feel that.. a lot of meetings to prepare for meetings 😆
is she VP of eng or something?
I feel that and i am not even a senior dev. Literally go to a 8am meeting just for them not to tell us what product they want us to make ha ha ha. Almost all my code changes are production fixes. Literally Bureaucracy at it’s finest!
Tip: Block 30-40% of your cal with time just for yourself. It will make you look busy while having time to GSD
I block my calendar. I also don't attend all calls I'm included on. I've been asked to have weekly project calls for "updates" to the business teams I work with and I've started cancelling them because they never show up. Protect your time!
I drop or ignore meetings at will.
So true,so many meetings a day!! I have learnt to block my calendar for patches of the day

In America banks you don’t need to work hard. You need to hype your small contributions or else you will be shunned and considered useless.
mean those 90 % meetings are to hype your contribution ?
Yes. In those meetings if you get a chance to put someone down do it like even if you can help someone offline don’t do it wait till they bring up the issue in the meeting n then announce you know the solution/fix. Never share what you know.
