A month or so ago, CMBU just got a new VP of R&D, Kal De (an internal promotion from within the BU who has been with the company for ~6 years — you can find more info on LinkedIn). I'm not in the BU and haven't heard much since then, but perhaps someone who is will chime in. You can get a sense of the products from CMBU by poking around the "Cloud Management Platform" section of labs.hol.vmware.com, which lets you learn about VMware products from a customer's point of view.
I work in cmbu and I can tell it's pretty bad. It's a stinky mix of dirty politics and bad management. Ever heard of a crappy framework called xenon? It's invented here
Well consensus is NSX is best, where does CMBU stuff rank?
NSX team is good. Working in CMBU is like watching yourself die a bit every day. Getting out felt like getting cured of cancer. Speaking from experience.
Wow that bad
Ya, most orgs in VMware are ok but my experience in cmbu was exactly as described. Some teams/managers were ok but the great ones are gone now. If you have offer for NSX, strongly recommend to go there.
Stay away from cmbu. It's filled with politics .. some groups are overloaded .. a group does not work and is creating a toxic environment with politics
What do you all think of the wavefront acq..it's part of cmbu right?
Wavefront acquisition was a big scam. But they will be fine for a couple of years till the top exec team realizes the scam, and does a big writedown. By then all wavefront guys will have vested and gone
Wavefront is still not the worst team in Cmbu. There are worse teams
why wavefront is not good?
How about CPBU?
What role ?
