Having a tough time deciding… Nv: 235, 450/4, 50k, awesome ESPP FRL: 205k, 15%, 480/4, 75k, awesome perks. 11 Yoe, silicon design related. Both roles appear to be good. Culture and WLB matters. Inputs appreciated, esp folks from both companies. Thanks 🙏 Edit: E5, IC5, Bay Area #hardware #semiconductor
Patman leaving intel
NVIDIA, good wlb and earning potential but not as prestigious but will get there eventually.
If I had a backpack with Fb printed on it, I’d likely pause before putting it on. But I’d proudly put Nv one on me. That thought experiment aside, Oculus is working on some really cool stuff (like Nvidia) and I am trying to be more objective.
What are the levels at both?
Updated post
Wow.. nv offer is solid... Nvidia for wlb and might be learning... Frl for money.... Do you know what is refreshers at both the places?
Don’t know about refreshers, perhaps folks from nv or fb can give insight. I am guessing 25% of initial RSU grant.
Just curious is this digital rtl design?
Vote for nVidia. I ran away from there a couple of times because of rumors of bad wlb as a NCG in hardware but blind really thinks otherwise But it’s a solid place. Legit experience and growth to be had, not to mention excellent compensation
Congratulations on getting ic5. U can push the RSU with Nvidia. Ic5 is generally higher than e5 for HW/embedded teams. Did u negotiate with Nvidia? RSUs can go higher. Caution: good wlb thing is team specific. WLB went bad in my experience specially since the TC became high.
Pushed both fb and nv hard in negotiation. Was expecting nv to match fb but they said they are maxed out for this position. Didn’t try walking away because I was genuinely interested and TC is still strong. Yeah, WLB is generally a leap of faith unless you already know someone in the team to give you a sense of the micro culture.
Congrats OP! Both seem great offer and close TC. Nvidia would be a safer bet for HW.
Perf optimization related, don’t want to be more specific.
What kind of Si design?
