Etiquette about applying to a role at a different team

Hi, So I interned at BofA this last summer. I received positive feedback but my manager said that he doesn't have a clear idea about the headcount so we'll have to wait and see. Looking at past interns, they all joined the bank around March-April of the following year so I think there's still hope. I came across a job opening within the same quant team but at a different subdivision/country. Should I tell the manager that I am applying for that (he doesn't have any relations to that team)? How do I go about this? I don't want to compromise any offer they might extend to me but at the same time I want to hedge lol Thanks! TC: 100k

Some companies send your manager an email when you apply. See if you can find out, most internal job sites state this if it’s the case. If not, I generally wait until the point that you have a formal manager to notify them. That said, I would use weekly checkins to loosely let them know you overall career desires so there are no surprises
