FaceBook recruiter reached out on LinkedIn wanting to talk about generalist software enfineering roles at the Seattle office. After a detailed discussion about my current and past engineering experience he wanted to know my current level at Microsoft and then proceeded to tell me that they only have openings for folks in the senior engineering bands and will stay in touch for future opportunities. I felt a little weird because SWE2/E4/L4 bands seem to hire a lot (which is what I wanted to interview for). Or am I unnecessarily reading things incorrectly? TC:173k
This is in fact true. :( I got same response from recruiter
Yep can confirm as well
YOE?
Why you aiming for E4 at 6 YOE, am I missing something? I know someone who got E5 at 3 YOE.
3.5 out of those 6 years were in a non software engineering role. I mean I was not really writing code but doing more of operations work. So I was not sure how that would translate. Would you still advise pushing for E5?
Please at least try, otherwise your underselling yourself. I believe those years still contributed to your current experience, do they not?
Yolo OP. Just do it
Same
Yo. MicroSoft
Yeah they told me the same thing. 5+ YOE.
Never understood these questions. Is your concern the recruiter lied to you? If so why would they do that?
Like I mentioned in the question; I found it a little odd that after the recruiter told me several times how the Seattle FB office was the largest after HQ, there were no SWE2/E4 openings. So I am trying to gauge if I am missing anything here
So are you interviewing for senior roles?
Sorry if I was unclear. I’m interviewing for SWE 2 roles
I see, thanks
