How bad is it in meta?
Recently got an E5 offer at Facebook. I applied to Facebook reality labs, did well on all parts of the interview except domain specific, which I failed. They rejected me for Facebook reality labs, but made me an offer for E5 generalist. Thought I’d share this, since I never got a standard system design interview. Nothing like grokking at all. I did get asked a multithreading system design problem though. Works for me, since I’ve never worked on distributed systems. I had a similar experience at Microsoft (no standard system design) but they offered me L63, which is definitely a down level. I suspect there may be some back doors at several big companies for those without system design experience for specialized roles. Just thought I’d put this out there, since nearly all posts on blind indicate most people think you can’t get into big tech without system design. #
Why is 63 at MSFT a downlevel? I understand the pay is a lot less but it is considered same level as E5 no? Congrats anyway, care to share your offer TC and YOE?
I feel like it should have been L64 at minimum. Facebook was $350k not counting $50k sign on. Nothing out of the ordinary about break down. Probably could have done better if I had timed competing offers. 15 YOE, none in distributed systems.
Thanks for sharing and congrats again.
Even l64 would have gave you less than 300k
You’re probably right. I managed to get the L63 up to 275 for year 1 and 2 if you count sign on bonus (which was split into 2 years).
I have recruiter feedback tomorrow and expecting a reject. Please don't build up my hope like this 🙏😔
Congratulations OP on ur E5 offer, can you please share the location and the split - base/rsu/signon?
How did you apply to Facebook and MSFT? Referrals or recruiters reached out themselves?
For Microsoft I applied to the specific role. For Facebook, I tried applying to the role but didn’t hear back. I then tracked down a recruiter and worked with them.
