Facebook E5 to E6 follow up system design

I had my onsite last week. I had 6 rounds of interview - 2 coding, 1 system design and 2 behavioral. I was not sent the interview details in advance and found out the interview lineup on the day of the interview. When I asked the recruiter about not having 2 system design and will that limit me to E5, they said no. My interviews went well and the feedback was positive. Now they reached out and asked me to do a follow up system design to get E6. Has anyone else been through this? If I screw up, will they take away E5? And if I don’t decide to interview, will they offer E5 right away? I know recruiter can help, but don’t really trust the recruiter that much. Any help is appreciated. 12 yoe, tc 320k How was the interview? - coding: 1 hard and follow up, 1 medium full coding required and 1 hard (no coding - just implement a part of the algorithm) - behavioral had a follow up easy - system design was standard backed system design with a lot of follow ups. Update: spoke to the recruiter. Looks like bwXj02 was right. Recruiter screwed up and wants another system design to make my packet stronger. I have the E5 offer independent of the system design performance. Thanks a lot everyone.

I doubt your original panel was E5. E5 to E6 requires more than just another system design round...Probably the recruiter wants to solidify the packet for E6. Go and Shine as your focus is much narrower

I had a bunch of interviews for E6, after I had a bunch of interviews for E5. One of them was system design. I ended up with an E5 offer

I’m interviewing for E6 and will have 2 design interviews. Probably you did really well and they want more signal before making an e6 offer

Makes sense.

What's your level at Microsoft?

How does FB decide level at first hand? YOE?

Based on resume, yoe, what scope the person has been working at, etc. that will determine a target level which can change based on interview performance.

There are usually 2 design questions for E6. A follow up could mean they realized their mistake and are going for an E6, or the original design portion had missing/negative signal and they need to check off a few more boxes before giving you an E5 offer. Either way, go for it and prep hard. Good luck!

I went through something similar , after my onsite I was asked to take another system design. I couldn't do it onsite as I was traveling, so took it over video call. I didn't get any offer :(

I did one design over phone once (not for Facebook). Never again. It’s like setting yourself for failure... Design is mostly about communication and nothing beats face to face conversation for that.
