"Facebook is calling Apple out for refusing to reduce its 30% App Store fee for a new Facebook feature that could help small-business owners during the pandemic" Sure, FB is a non-profit. It will not make any money from adding more active users and increasing existing user engagement on the platform. FB just wants to do good for the community. How I wish all the companies were like FB, helping companies during these hard times. https://www.businessinsider.com/facebook-apple-app-store-fee-2020-8?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=sf-bi-main&fbclid=IwAR1n6IObBBqdYTm5PBRVDyP2LJkV7Lc9hSXOZLLrtTtaWGxMNJGMqjMM0us Update 1: FB ARPU in US/Canada has been ~$40 (See recent earnings report below). If a consumer spends $100/quarter on FB live stream then Apple gets $30 which is still lower than the quarterly FB ARPU. ARPU will only increase in the future as FB will continue to get more data on consumer shopping behavior. https://s21.q4cdn.com/399680738/files/doc_financials/2020/q2/Q2-2020-FB-Earnings-Presentation.pdf Update 2: FB is not a monopoly according to FB folks here. OK #facebook #apple
Android removed the 30% fee, why can't apple? https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/14/facebook-says-apple-refused-to-waive-30percent-fee-on-new-feature.html Majority of tools for business are free unlike amazon.
Air is no longer free!
30%? I heard Tim Cook say it was 30% for the first year, 15% there after during the Congress hearing. How's it 30% for FB?
15% is for second year subscriptions. 30% applies to all digital payments
Ah, all in the fine print. Tim did his CEO job very well then. This question was repeatedly asked and the whole digital payments section was well avoided during the hearing.
Nice. More pressure on apple to reduce the absurd 30% fee on all digital transactions.
Another Amazon employee who wants to put other companies in bad light to make them feel better. Amazon is much more evil than Facebook. Had they paid taxes, USA would be more rich and better able to support people in economic crisis.
By the way - there is no fee that Facebook charges when you make a sale using Facebook. So I think this is actually to benefit small businesses.
FB is not in a business model of charging money for its products. It is in the business of more engagement so that it can show more ads. This new feature increases engagement. And when a user is watching the live stream it will show ads in between. Is it that hard to understand!! FB wants to make money but wants to call out Apple. This is shady, I had doubt that FB is unethical but this proved it. Also being opportunistic, when there is bad press against Apple why not pile on.
Thank you for explaining Facebooks business model to me. I am grateful
This 30% cut that Apple is taking is from the SMBs that will create paid video events. One way or the other FB will not make any less or more money from this product.
This 30% charge is curbing many companies’ revenue through mobile apps. Yes, I think FB can potentially develop new revenue stream and even a whole new non-ad-based business model if this fee is removed. But so will many many other business, big or small, benefit from its removal. While it’s fun to read us all shitting on each other’s company, I think we can all agree that this 30% is a bit unreasonable and it’s removal will benefit a lot more people than it will hurt.
lol. someone photoshop zuck on good guy Greg's face.
