Facebook vs Amazon SDE 2 offer seattle

Im a mobile dev with 2.5 YOE. I value WLB, go hiking and camping, visit family etc. also love to be challenged. current role feels too slow after my PM left a year ago (also current tc is 115) Amazon: base 153 bonus: 150k/2 years (vested monthly) RSU: 190k worth vested over 4 years (year 3/4 heavy,) TC: ~250 facebook: base 160 signing 35 rsu 300k of stocks vested evenly over 4 years 15% bonus target per year TC: ~250 important notes: - Amazon team is an internal incubator with someone well known running it, so sounds very interesting and high impact, kind of outside normal amazon. the team seems surprisingly chill BUT i have heard horror stories about WLB generally at amazon. i directly asked the hiring manager about this and he seems very reasonable and honest - fb seems to have more focus in WLB (benefits package is all about balance) so from a corp standpoint it seems good. but i guess it will depend on the team I end up on. also kind of strange going in and not knowing anything about the team you could end up on. i am also excited about some fb projects but want to know if their WLB is as good as the marketing implies it is. #offer #wlb #impact

Amazon, the team you’re on sounds very interesting and if there’s good people running it that’s a huge opportunity. Amazon signing bonus is so large (80k yr 1) you can put a down payment on a duplex (somewhere cheap like TX, can be done remote) and have an income generating rental property. Based off your YoE you’re like 25? At your age to have one property already paying for itself with tenants will set you up for long term success which will be the ultimate wlb. Once you have one property it becomes exponentially easier to get more without much additional costs (cash out refinance as equity builds and use that for the next down payment). Over the course of 10-15 years you could have $1M in real estate properties assuming every 5-7 years there’s enough equity. All from one $80,000 downpayment that you got from Amazon. Worst case do your 12 months and reapply to f/g

Thanks for the input! And yea around that age. The bonus is vested monthly but I’m not complaining! Would love to invest in property but I’m here on TN so no side dipping for me Hope you are having a good time at amazon and hope you are staying safe!

you can always go to amazon. the reverse is not true. FB refreshers, perks, bonus, etc will make this easy

Amazon WLB is any day better than FB. You will cruise at Amazon. I say this because you sound like top tier kind. Advantage that FB has over Amazon is better compensation, which in your case is the same. I would say any day Amazon in that case.

Facebook easzss Jun 1, 2020

same or even more TC, it's still a no brainer. FB perks and talent all day as you can see from the poll. wlb also much better than amazon

See, I don’t think of myself as the top tier kind. I like to solve problems but also cut work off and not look at it in evenings or weekends. The interviewers seem to think I’m Pretty alright which was a surprise.

What team/org at Amazon?

SAP pxXM15 OP Jun 1, 2020

🤷‍♂️ it’s some incubator that they can’t tell me anything about before joining. (And even if they did I wouldn’t be able to say here) Seems neat though

Is it for fb e4 or e3 ?

SAP pxXM15 OP Jun 1, 2020

E4

Google jgghg Jun 5, 2020

Isn’t fb E4 target bonus 10%?

Intuit rtwoh Jun 2, 2020

why is fb tc same as amzn

SAP pxXM15 OP Jun 2, 2020

Was wondering the same. But I hear Fb stopped hiring literally after I got the offer so maybe there’s some budget constraints right now

Amazon jg7df2 Jun 2, 2020

FB is a better brand name on resume imo. Over the years, you’ll likely earn more at FB than at Amazon (bonus, faster path to E5 etc.).
