First of all, thanks to the blind community. The TC or GTFO rule helped me to know that there are high TC jobs and I must keep preparing. It took me 1.5 years to be fearless about tech interviews, and I secured offers from Facebook, Google and LinkedIn. All offers in Bay Area. Facebook (E4): 165k/350k/50k/10% Google (L4): The recruiter said that she'd be moving forward to HC without team matching, because I told her I have two other offers. Don't know how it's going to pan out. No offer numbers yet. Also, assuming that HC will pass me as L4 (Correct me, if I should be prepared for any other surprises) LinkedIn (Sr. SWE): I was interviewed for a particular team for senior position, but that position got filled out, so recruiter is finding me another team. But he gave me the range of compensation numbers. The average of that range is: 192.5k / 380k / 10% / some sign on. The final numbers would still depend upon the team. I have the following questions: 1. Is Facebook still a good place to work looking at Apple's recent updates to disrupt facebook's advertisement revenue? What are the pros and cons to work for Facebook? The recruiter said I can easily be promoted to E5 within a year. How easy it is to be promoted to E5 within 33 months? I am afraid of PIP otherwise. The recruiter is asking me for the actual numbers which would satisfy me and stop the conversation to other two companies. What's the max band for E4 in these post-pandemic times? 2. I am concerned about the team-matching phase at Google. I heard people have been waiting for around 6 months to be matched. How is the situation now? How long does it take to be promoted to L5 at G? 3. I have heard good things about LinkedIn from the employees. But I am not sure how long it would take for team-matching at LinkedIn. The recruiter is trying hard, but he can't give me any ETA on team-matching. Has anyone been in this situation? How long does it take to identify the team at LinkedIn? 4. What are the factors I should keep in mind while choosing my next opportunity? 5. What opportunity would you choose in this case? Current TC: ~$150k (in a tier-3 company, not oracle) YoE: 6. #engineering #software #swe #offers
Can you talk about how you prep for above interviews?
Responded to the thread below
What was your timeline of prep over 1.5 years? I started from the basics and have been prepping for 7 months and still feel i have a long way to go. But i see posts on blind of people doing only few months of prep so i feel like im doing something wrong
I started everything from scratch. I was just able to code brute force array questions before I started. So, literally started learning everything from scratch.
Starting from scratch as in re-learning data structures and algos? How did you eventually progress from that to the LC medium/hard needed to pass these interviews? How many hours a day did you spend studying during these 1.5 years and what did your prep look like exactly? I too am curious about the details because going from 0 to these offers is very impressive
Umm, congratulations are in order for you! Your determination paid off.
Umm... you don't really have a Google offer yet? Getting to HC means nothing other than you didn't completely bomb the interview.
honesty all the above companies are good.. If TC is same the order would be G > FB >> Lnkdn
That RSU offer from LI for Sr SWE— too good 😀
Ya y ppl gotta hate on LinkedIn in the comments
Should be at least E5/L5 with that yoe. So linkedin senior is actually junior they did a title inflation trick so make sure you check levels.fyi Ask G/FB for follow up to uplevel
What did you pick OP ? Do you know anything about refreshers at LinkedIn ?
Google is slow, if you come at L4, enjoy staying at L4, with the same pay for years. Also enjoy being extremely frustrated at every turn. FB would be good if you have no life and want to work 70 hours a week. Pick LinkedIn.
I think LinkedIn is the worst among the 3. There are not many things to do at LinkedIn. If you prefer stepping on each other’s toes and playing office politics all day long, choose LinkedIn.
Linkedin is not a good choice there promo is even worse than Google and tech stack is really old. Also if you worked 70 hours at Google, pretty sure you can also get promoted within 2 years.
