Just heard back from my Q2 promo and it came a bit short for missing 1 more mid/large projects. I've been at Amazon for 1 year 4 months as new grad. TT for the past review. So currently year2 target comp around 160k with shares to vest Feb 2019. What should my thought be right now after finding out the result? Plan1: Stay for another quarter and try again. My team shifted me to a brand new project this week that requires ramp up and adjustment. My concern is that this might not be completed by the next quarter or the initial work won't fill the promo gap. I've mentioned to my manager and hope to see a plan that could fill the gap. Plan2: leave the company and shoot for higher TC What should I target for TC with my experience?
Even if it takes 6 months, you’ll still have made sde 2 in less than 2 years out of college. That’s pretty good. Stop and smell the roses
6 months is not a lot of time in grand scheme of things. You are not going to level up by leaving. And it will take at least take a year to get promoted at the new place. Instead wait for promotion and then move for higher TC
Except if other companies (Google, FB) don't care about your sde2 title.. they'll give you an L3 position anyway so you might as well cut your losses
Never seen that happen but sure
I think it would be crazy to leave before you get promo'd considering how close you are.
Just be patient. It usually takes more than 2 years to get to SDE2, so you’re on the right track given that your manager even tried to push it through already. Just take the feedback and do the heads down work.
If you can get hired for the next level – go for it
Why did this have to be told after June 1st , if the promo failed it could have been told much earlier so that you could start working on the gaps much earlier
Just want to get more perspectives
Right now it's about whether I can hit the deadline it's about the type of work I should work on to fill the gap. I feel my current project won't fill the gap because it won't be in prod for the next couple quarters
