It feels really bad. I dont know what to do. I cannot stay at Uber as well. (not on pip or perf problems) I will have to take some opportunity which will be step down from current opportunity Edit: I set hard goals of relatively higher levels in other top companies. I felt I did a good job in preparation too but failed at those companies. Got downleveled offers than the ones I was targeting
Why can't you stay at Uber? Also how many yoe? Finding a tech job in software is hard AF. You are not alone OP Guys who get multiple offers are really good with interviewing and I don't think there are many like that. Sadly getting a job and levelling is so tied to interview performance. Hang in there and something will work out. GL.
I did get many downleveled offers. Updated the post. I thought it is easier as the market is hot. 5-10yoe
How many yoe? Did you over reach?
Bay area
Have you heard the phrase.. "try and try till you succeed"..?
Easier said than done Also, you can't keep doing this every time you have to change job. It's draining.
It is very hard but not impossible. It is definitely a mental drain. You also have to keep up with work
Everyone needs to fail over and over again before they can succeed
Everyone?
Not guys?
Wondering what is your target level? Staff (f/g 6)?
Why can't you stay at uber
Also, downlevelled is not same as failing
Agreed. This feels like a humblebrag
OP is definitely not bragging anywhere.
Your Uber level could be inflated, in which case you did just fine.
^this. if you have many “down-leveled” offers, maybe that’s a better reflection of your true level on the market.
Let's just say I have F and G experience and now i don't see any immediate path forward without going a bit backward. It's a not a good situation to be in
Interviewing for senior roles is harder. They weigh in many factors and want you to ace everything. How many onsites did you do btw?
I've been told it is typical for top companies to try to down-level new hires. FB tried to get me to take a down-level offer with a bunch of BS reasons why. I said "Thanks but no thanks."
