Failed FB and Doordash onsite interview and both were due to the hiring manager/bq rounds. Was targeting E5 level. Have scheduled other interviews so I'd like to ask for advice. I recall two questions that might be killing me: What is the biggest mistake you have made? Details? What are you doing for the recent two years to improve yourself? tc: sr swe >350k After cliff in one year: <250k
One time someone asked me how I could print a line 10 times without using a loop or recursion and I said I wouldn't because that would be dumb.
Since It's kind of me begging for the job and good TC, I must take them no matter how dumb the questions are.
Was the answer to copy paste the print statement 10 times ?
You can use counter with a GoTo statement in C
there are common questions that u should have prepared in advance. If you have made a mistake then project that as a success by showing that how you learnt from it and you used the learnings later to excel. If you haven't made any mistake then create a fake one that looks real and be prepared to be cross questioned.
Thanks!
tons of lies
Did you practice behavioral before those interviews? A lot of engineers consider it a freebie but I’d recommend thinking of stories before
At that level you need to show leadership , what you learnt , how did you assess the situation , considered alternatives , lead the actions and provided results l. Take a look at the cracking the coding interview chapter about behavioral , write down situations , go through how to structure a story in STAR (situation task action result) etc This together with system design carry a lot of weight the more senior you are.
This is good advice, thanks. Focused too much on Leetcode and grokking the system design.
People overlook this but it needs prep I would usually spend the last days towards an onsite 50% on tech 50% making sure my behavioral stories and everything are good and digging scenarios from my work history.
