I have had 3 technical interviews for 3 different positions at Amazon (2 SA/1 TAM) and can’t get to the final interview. My first tech interview I bombed because I wasn’t prepared for the randomness of questions but I felt like I aced the next two after studying up on Amazon interview questions. I have over 16 years as various roles as server/network/VMware/security/architecture administration but no direct work with cloud. I have been doing AWS boot camps and recently received AWS CP cert. I am now working on AWS SA cert. Any advice would be appreciated. They say in the SA and TAM interviews that no AWS experience is required but I think that is hurting my chances. I am more interested in the TAM (post sales) role. Current TC: $130k Midwest 16 YOE
Certs won't help, actually using the product would be of more value. Not sure about coding bar for SA/TAM, but almost 100% sure it's that or failing LP’s
Thanks. SA/TAM technical interviews have no coding questions/problems. More of technical knowledge
Certs can help, though you don't need AWS experience to get a role. It could be LPs. You can PM me for more info.
If you have not experience in AWS or cloud architecture/deployments and only a CP, then you need to take time to learn. I got my SA cert and did my first tech screen interview, but realized I was not ready after I didn’t pass and didn’t understand some of the questions. Spent more time getting the pro and others to learn the technology, did multiple labs on the side, etc. Did the tech screen recently and it was one of the easiest interviews I’ve done. This was for a senior SA position. Don’t rush it, take the time to understand the technology then try again.
You said you aced the last two sets of interviews. Why do you think you got rejected at the end?
I think no work experience with AWS, consulting, and software dev is hurting me. I definitely answered all of the technical questions well.
I'm not saying you're wrong, but it always helps to get feedback from interviewers to form an unbiased opinion of your performance and do course correction.
