I always thought by this age I’d be much ahead than where I am. I was at the peak of my career working at a faang and had my head held up high. I went to top cs schools for masters and undergrad and feel like I’ve pissed away my blood sweat and tears there for my current situation. Now I’m working a crappy job in a non tech company and am taking a 20% pay cut because of the market. I’m barely learning anything and not growing much tbh. I’m tired of lying to everyone that I like it and to save face. Now I’m stuck with putting this garbage 160k tc job on my resume and making crap up for skills vs leaving a job gap for 7 months. Everyone else is raising funding , working at the top of their field and I’m here barely holding on to this mediocrity. If I was good I’d be doing well not struggling Man I’ve sabotaged my future and wish I wasn’t so fking mentally incompetent. I wish I was never in tech , clearly my brain is too under developed
Yep, you’re screwed.
160k is garbage? You gotta wake up from 2021-22 TC trance...
It is with our inflation
no it isnt. leave the bubble of blind.
Dude. Don’t tie your sense of self worth to dumb things like what schools you went to or what company you work at. There is more to life than prestige hunting. You don’t have to lie to people that you like it, but I would suggest carefully introspecting about who you are and why you value the name of a company on your resume so much. What other things in your life can you draw meaning from? Cause this ain’t it chief.
Also probably worth thinking about your casual racism man…
No need to be racist and blame Indians for your shortcomings. Find a career counselor, develop a plan and take it from there.
I have graduated from university at age 26. And had a tc of 8k usd per year. I am 30+ now. Tc is 200k per year. Life is awesome. It’s just a period of your life. That is it. Don’t try to jump higher then you can at the very moment. Take a time. Your tc is still awesome for 90+% of the people on the earth.
Just ride the wave, you are on down part of the wave! Use the time to even come back stronger when market improves! This experience can give you perspective! Make friends, your colleagues in current job could be friends as well. Just learn that TC is not everything and life is not a linear graph! You will bounce back stronger! Happened to me as well!
Chin up. Imagine saying this as a freshman in high school. That's the situation you're in. Most people in their early 20s have a good shot at living to 100. Don't expect a job to give you all of your happiness. It's great if it gives you some, but live your life across lanes. If you aren't learning and the job is cake, start a side project. Enjoy learning by doing something no one has control over except you. And yes, go see a therapist. They help a lot. If you want to look into a career coach then DM me. I have 26 yrs in tech + 14 yrs in coaching.
how much for coaching? I’m graduating in may
It's highly dependent on goals. DM me if you want to talk about an intro consult (no charge).
Dude, you're complaining about dropping TC when you're still in the 90th percentile of income earners. Get a reality check dude. You're doing fine, it's just your ego, else you wouldn't have included the path to getting to faang as if that's something to be proud of. It's not. You can cover your basic needs and plan/save for the future/retirement. That's better than most.
Well I’m approaching it from a view point of getting married
Op Just work on yourself, get rid of the casual racism, and be grateful you have a job. You’ll find a good girl if you’re a good guy. Just hang in there
Yep, you are a failure. With this kind of respect you have towards others, you will never be happy in your life. Always remember, what you have now is a dream job for lot of others and if you don’t like it GTFO and at least let others make a life with it.
Dream job? Lol what a joke
Not even joking, you should talk to a therapist.
I would if I could afford one
Yes you can if you choose to prioritize this.
