I heard you can fake your job title in your resume and nobody will find out. Is that true? Wouldn't the new employer call your old employers or references to find out? I'm considering it for non fang interviews (finance) because my company's titles look bad compared to others and I am underleveled from coasting a few years at a dead end job. I'm a senior engineer with 15 yoe. Although, if I look on paysa, the pay for my title is not that far off from higher titles on other places (lead Dev, vp of tech, solution architect). But I feel like the dummies in finance won't even give me a chance at a higher title without lying. I haven't tried though, so I could be wrong. For fang interviews, I don't think it matters. So I'll probably put the right title on those and leetcode myself to success.
Try first.
Just be upfront that it’s a descriptive title then... my actual titles in a lot of roles had no bearings on what I actually did.
are you ok to see your face in mirror after that?
Yeah I don't mind. I don't see the point to it, but if it works then I'm interested. This is finance, the employers would eat you alive if they could. But it would be easier if you guys told me that stuff doesn't really work.
There is a difference between a company’s job title and the “Role” that you may play in that company. If you have worked in roles that are related to a Dev Lead or a VP of a Tech, why not? You should confidently be able to talk like a VP when you face the interviewer though. That is the key! However, when it comes to background check, your title should match with the one background check finds out. For example, you may say the official title in the company is a Sr.Engineer but you may quote the Role in parenthesis as Engineering Lead. Nothing will hurt your job. This usually happens in start ups where you play multiple roles with no official titles.
So if your company reports to Chex or some similar employment recorder and your next company runs a background check, you will fail it and be flagged to explain. If your explanation doesn't line up, your offer will be revoked.
Not with the uptime. App! All work and references are validated. Helps me stick out from ppl usually on my interviews when I show them my uptime. Resume
Title has nothing to do with salary. It's about your influence scope. You may be a senior that makes a lot of money in one tram and be super specialized in that teams work, but interact very little with people outside your team. Principal doesn't necessarily require technical depth, but it requires working with ambiguous requirements and getting other teams on board to solve your problem.
