Hello, My manager made me work like anything last year(12-14 hours daily) and promised me for promotion, even during the shut down and paternity leave I was working. I did not get promoted last year, as per my manager the higher management did not approve, and asked me to keep giving my best for the next year, no luck during mid year as well, all these things made me and my family very disturbed. I am IC3, what I heard is that promoting to IC4 is much dependent on manager instead of the higher management. I think he is just fooling me, he lied about my promotion till the last moment previous year to me. I am the only earning person in my family, shall I continue trying here at Apple or start looking out, any recommendation will be appreciated. Org: IS&T TC(Including RSU &Bonus) 175k$ YOE: 5 years, 3 years at Apple
LC and GTFO. Not worth working under someone who takes advantage of you
Must be idms, same thing happened with one of my friend working there !!!
The worst org at Apple. What's your Yoe? The best advice is to leetcode and gtfo probably.
What do you think are the worst parts of IS&T? Been here for about a year — don’t care about prestige and all that nonsense. From my understanding, it should be that IS&T makes useful tools for use by rest of Apple. Many people feel like that’s not the case, and I have an idea why, but wanted to get another perspective
I don't know, I have been here not that long. Everyone says IS&T is the worst. They actually make good tools. I love our internal stuff. It's really great. It's a shame that this org sucks regarding pay and refreshers.
You'd easily get 300k elsewhere, spend 12-14 hours in LC instead
fuck all that. time to go. i don’t know why y’all work at the FAANGs
Because i’d rather cry in my mercedes than a Honda. (Now at Meta)
at FAANG here. my manager and the rest of my team all laugh and half-jokingly talk shit about the upper management all the time. also WLB is amazing (~5 hours a day)
The easiest way to get a compensation increase is to switch companies. You can leave your company for a lateral position in title and still make much more than getting a promotion at your current company.
Move out
Switch easy. Double ur TC
“Higher management did not approve” is the greatest lie ever told. A manager who cannot own the message truthfully is not a manager to work for. Treat this as a lesson and find the next opportunity - good luck!
Spineless is exactly right. And that prevents employees from growing, while enabling leadership to feel good about making shitty decisions.
