Was working 20-30 hours a week on my first team in the gov with no deadlines and life was sweet. Got transferred to another team working on an incredibly high priority project and I’m now up to 60+ hours of work a week and often weekends making poverty wages (75k). These guys are all consultants and they work day and night. I’m on probation until the end of the year so I don’t want to fuck up and get fired for not meeting deadlines. Therefore I work too. All my work is cranking out tons of new features and fixing bugs creating by other people. I’m doing full stack work so all the UI + web services + database stuff. managed for a while but now my work is starting to snowball. Tasks get carried over from one sprint to another with new work added on top of it. Management doesn’t care, they want things done ASAP at all costs. I’ve done a few interviews but flunked em all. I try to leetcode at night or weekends but I just want to vomit looking at any more code. What can do to improve my stamina for nonstop coding?
Will you get fired for missing deadlines? Lol miss a deadline or two, take a break
I don’t think I’ll fired get on the spot but I do have to pass a probation review every 4 months. I’ve passed 1/3 and my 2nd is coming up. Once I pass probation after a year it’s basically impossible to get fired but would rather not rock the boat right now. And management does get pissed when things aren’t done on time.
Make sense. I’d say Leetcode before you start the work day, then again at some point during the work day. Don’t save it for the end of the day when you’re burnt out lol
Can you go to the doctor get a note for some sort of mental health leave and then apply for FMLA while you practice coding
Do you have children or other priorities taking up the rest of your time ? 60 hours of work can be fit in during the day and you can have weekends free for studying. I know it sounds rough. But sometimes you do what you have to do if quitting and then looking for a job is not an option. Can you find a buddy to prep for interviews with ? I bet if you posted on blind looking for one with your experience you can find a buddy.
Do the bare minimum. What are they going to do? Let you go? Then you’ll qualify for unemployment benefits and can interview in peace.

I am starting to think Chinese interviewers currently fail non-Chinese candidates on purpose.
Stamina is not the problem. Quit or slack off at work.
I don’t have enough savings to quit and survive. I make just enough to cover rent and basic expenses. Otherwise I would have left a long time ago.
I feel ya OP. Maybe target defense companies like Raytheon. Should be easy interviews and relaxed hours. Would be a good stepping stone to prep and leave for higher paying job.
