Received an offer from fidelity for New Hampshire location (near Manchester, NH) for Senior software engineer. Base - 120k Sign on - 10k Bonus - 20% Shares - 25k for 2 years I’ve lived mostly in Bay Area and not sure about how salary ranges are in NH (levels.fyi is in line with these numbers) Open to relocation but Is this a good offer based on the location? Also, how is fidelity as a workplace? This is apparently L5. Any insights appreciated. Although I am looking for a change irrespective of location, wanna make sure offer and company is good to work for. Negotiating for a higher base pay but highly unlikely TC - $250k in Bay Area #joboffer
What’s making you consider a salary downgrade?
Great offer for New Hampshire, but why would take almost a 50 percent cut?
Not interested in a cut but since NH is tax free, was trying to understand and compare the net income after tax between my current TC at Bay Area and NH
That’s going to be considerably less, even after CoL change.
Shares in Fidelity? Isn't it a private company with no plans of going public ever. Can you sell those shares back to Fidelity or something?
It’s a private company. These are not like RSU shares but they call it private shares within the company which kind of vests after 2 years
But can you sell them back after they vest though?
New Hampshire weather seems awful, especially after Bay area. Would highly recommend spending some time there before considering the move.
Just be aware those “shares” aren’t really shares. It’s just deferred variable comp. Pays out whatever they say it’s worth after 2 years. Overall, that’s a standard package. I doubt you can get base to move but if you’re relocating, I’d lean harder on signing bonus. It’s not a SF tech company. It’s an old established finance company that tries to move slow and fast at the same time 😝 there’s a never ending amount of work to do but you can still be done at 5 and enjoy your real life.
No just no . Be in bay area so that when market changes , you ride that bull train
Bad move imo. Take atleast 150k base if you want to move with 7 yoe. That number plus all these other give you a cushion to save more.
Almost impossible to get 150k there with fidelity unless I become a staff engineer or something in future but I agree with you. Thanks !
Yoe ?
