Filing for unemployment in the state of Hawaii. They say I can't file for unemployment because Amazon reported my wages in California and I have never actually worked there (my office is based there but I've been working remotely in Hawaii). Anyone know how I can get around this? Amazon is taking forever to to respond to my inquiries.
Sounds like you just need to file in CA.
File in CA
Sounds like you need a lawyer
You’re basically a CA worker
For the first 6 months that I was employed with amazon yeah I was then I had a location change so now idk where to file
What ended up happening, did you file UI with CA for HI?

Is CA the state that you are paying your taxes in your W2?
It's a weird situation. Amazon requires that you pay for taxes in both (1) the state where your job is based (2) the state where you are physically located. So for the first ~6 months of my employment I was paying taxes in California and Hawaii. Then after that I had a location change so that I would change #1 above to reflect a virtual location in Hawaii, hence I was only paying Hawaii taxes 6 months after my employment. In effect, I was only paying taxes in California for a short period of time. Probably too short to get unemployment out of it since I had a location change to Hawaii after that.
I see. Imo I think you can file in HI but I would ask your HR or contact the gov department. In the worst case, you'll find out your eligibility while you are filing for unemployment.
