Hello everyone, I am currently looking for my first role in finance. I am graduating this May. I am having very hard time to find a role which is early career and who gives sponsorship. I would like to connect if anyone can guide me and help me navigate? Any help is appreciated. Or someone who can refer me to the positions. About my background: I am a Graduate student in Quantitative Finance from Tier-2 university . I am currently targeting Financial Analyst or Treasury Analyst roles. I have 1 year of full-time experience in Accounting and internship (US) experience in Treasury Thank you #corpfinance #finance #fpa
Nowadays the finance job market is hard if you don’t have previous experience. I would suggest you to obtain an internship first. If you require a sponsorship it’s going to be very hard for a new graduate. You need to broaden your applications to other roles and apply to a minimum of 5000 jobs. Try doing 50 a day and you will have a chance by the time you graduate. Another option is to do a masters and get another visa for 3 years to continue job search.
This sounds like awful advice, quality not quantity of applications
OP is a new grad with no experience, they have no quality to offer. Quantity or knowing someone is probably the approach.

Start w internship. Microsoft has a few for early finance professionals . Work with your university’s recruiting website if they aggregate recruiting pipelines.
I did one internship in summer and I am graduating this May
What do MSFT finance recruiters look for in applicants?
Stay away from Capital One and Discover.
Why?
Discover just got acquired by C1 and the merger is pending. 6-12 months until we know if the deal is rejected or not. C1 culture is horrible as well. Discover culture and WLB is good but stability is now questionable.
Lol, lmao even
Why don’t you look for a role in Quantitative Modeling Teams at banks? I think they will pay more than Financial Analyst for entry level.
I did but they are asking for experience like 3+ years
Look for middle or back office at good brand name. Make sure you look up hiring manager and Americanize your name if they’re American. I’ve seen people get auto rejected if their name doesn’t look Anglo enough. Sad but true.

Thank you! Would you be able to refer me?
@Porsche just wondering if you have any good employee perks? Like a free Porsche after 5 years at the company?
Network with alumni who are in roles you’re interested. Reach out to then on LinkedIn and ask to meet up for coffee or have a call. Ask them about what they do and mention you’re looking to make the jump into a similar role. At the end of the conversation ask for advice and ask if they know a recruiter. Recruiters are the BEST way to get finance roles but the good ones come through referrals

Hey I think anyone that could provide advice would need much more context on your experience and where you’re graduating from. What types of roles are you looking for? Finance is huge industry with various career paths Are you a undergrad or grad student? Do you have prior work experience either full time or internships? Depending on what you want to pursue are you in a target institution for that industry?
