How do i go about researching, applying for and interviewing with good companies in BLR? I value quality of engineering work, quality of peers and compensation as my top 3 requirements at a prospective employer. My background: I was born and raised in India. Currently am a US citizen and have been in the US for about 15 years. 13 year of software dev experience at different companies (large investmwnt bank, SAAS start up etc. Currently a principal engineer at a large software company. Would like to move to India for family reasons (only considering BLR as parents are based there). Although I am a person of Indian origin, I have never worked in India and don’t know the first thing about work culture and what would be a good compensation package for someone with my experience.
Join a startup in India at a good position. They pay well and have amazing work opportunities as well. Go to the websites of major Indian VC firms (you can find that online) and see companies in their portfolio.
Is the safest option to join US company like G/Amazon/msft and do transfer internally . How hard would be to do interview and get offer in India as external hire
You can start with Linkedin. Build some connections (recruiters in Bangalore region). Or directly apply on company's career page / website. I guess, given your current designation and US experience, it wont be difficult for you to get an interview. Big companies like MS, Amazon, Google, Adobe, etc. will be able to conduct the entire loop on Video conference or by inviting you to their US office for onsites. No need to fly to India just for interviews.
First join tier 1 companies (from FAANG) , spend couple of years , then you yourself will figure out if you want to continue there or join a startup . Assuming you are coming back for parents, you would prefer work/life balance over money!
Yes, I should have mentioned it in my original post. A reasonable work-life balance is a key requirement.
Thank you all for the comments. Unfortunately, FAANG in the US and then doing an internal transfer is not an option as I am unwilling to move out of Utah (again family reasons). I get lots of calls from FAANG recruiters but all of them want me to relocate to CA/Seattle/Austin etc.
There's a PMTS/Architect req in my team. Salesforce Marketing cloud in blr, do reach out if you are interested for a referal
I am just curious, if you are US citizen, what visa u would need to work in India or how is the process of work permit in India?
I wouldn’t need a visa as I am an overseas citizen of India (it is equivalent to a green card in the US)
I got it! 👍🏻
