It's this time of year when we talk about compensation with manager. My current take home is $130k + $50k stocks annually. 3 yoe as Software Engineer. How much hike to expect as I finish one year at Yelp? Cirrently am I paid fairly?
Probably will get 3-6% base, maybe more since it's low. And either zero or maybe like 50k stock.
Do you get bonus, espp?
How is Yelp still in business
Did you do a good job? Yelp is feeling a little spendy recently because more people have been leaving due to comp. In that climate, assuming you did well, you could definitely push to 140 or even 142. Remember to complain loudly. Use words like “I am feeling underpaid for my contributions, blah blah”. Make vague hints about starting to interview elsewhere. For stock, you should ask for a refresher of 100k, but expect closer to 75 or 50 if you were just average. If you get the above, keep in mind you’ll still be getting paid somewhat below market (well, depending on who you are and your exact role), but less so. Source: left yelp due to comp :)
Very helpful
Assuming that you have the ready option to leave (i.e. H1B), I'd simply be upfront about it. "Hey, I know I'm due for a compensation increase. I really love working here and want to continue doing so but I've noticed that market salaries for someone of my experience level and with my skill set are $xxx."
What’s stock refreshers?
$50k stocks means you got $200k (vesting over 4 years) when you joined ?
How did you do wrt work, and overall impact ? Refreshers vary between 50 to 150. Source : someone I know has had 125k+ refreshers back to back. 😁
5% salary bump, 20-50k RSU refresher (salary bump and refresher might not come at the same time)
You’re doing great for yelp.
