I've just started my penultimate year for college and I've started looking at my options once I finish. So far, I've completed a summer intership and a year long placement at PwC. While my time at PwC has been useful, I don't really enjoy the work they do and the compensation for new grads is not the best in London (around 25k). What should I start doing to be in the best position once I leave college and start looking for work? #career #swe #pwc #london
Is this your penultimate year, or are you finishing in a year? Those are mutually exclusive.
Penultimate year - it’s a bit early but just looking at what I should be doing for my final year Edit: Changed the title to make it less confusing!
Well, I can't speak specifically to London, but the most important thing for finding that first job will be making sure you stand out from other new grads. Relevant work experience, whether that be on a personal project, another internship, contributing to open source, or anything else that gives you resume lines to add and relevant stories to tell during interviews. Also, make sure to start applying to jobs well before your graduation. Start in the fall of your senior year, because landing that first "real" job is hard. That said, you already sound like you're on the right track with what you've done so far. Just keep it up and start applying when it's time and don't get discouraged if it takes a lot of applications.
