Received 3 offers from various fintech companies. Thoughts on which one I should pick? 5 YOE 0 TC (laid off) Bloomberg Pros: - stable - highest comp Neutral: - 50min commute each way 3x RTO - okish work, not too interesting - 20 days PTO Cons: - limited growth opportunities due to flat structure (next level would be team lead) - cog in the machine --- Clear Street Pros: - interesting work - flexible on when I show up to the office (can come in 11-7 for example) - more growth opportunities (promo to senior) Neutral: - $17 lunch stipend a day Cons: - paper money (no signs of IPO soon) - 40min commute each way 4x RTO - 15 days PTO --- Yahoo Finance Pros: - interesting work - fully remote - more growth opportunities (promo to senior) - 40k signon split between first 2 years Neutral: - senior heavy team (lots of senior + principal engineers on the team). I would be the most junior. - 20 days PTO Cons: - lower pay than bloomberg
Yahoo is unlimited sick time btw, along with the 20 PTO
What other perks does Yahoo have? Recruiter didn't tell me much.
Yahoo can I get a referral? I’ve heard such good things about the company. I got 5yoe as a product designer
I like yfinance the best tbh. Remote is golden. You have so much energy at the end of the day. Spending 6 hours each week on nyc subway is not worth an extra 23k after tax. Blind loves TC so Bloomberg will win here obv
Technically, it's a 20k difference before taxes for the first 2 years. I imagine the promo to senior would close the pay gap a lot more between yahoo and bloomberg, but definitely not a guaranteed I'll get promo'd.
True. Since you have those competing offers, have you tried negotiating? I think you could get them to convert that bonus into base salary and maybe add another 10k. I would ask them to match Bloomberg and then see if they can meet in the middle worst case. https://haseebq.com/my-ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer/ This is just me though, and I hate the nyc subway but otherwise love the city. If you don’t mind the subway the calculus changes of course
Take yahoo finance. I will take a 100k less in salary just to work full remote. I am surprise the pole is even close
Too real, take that offer and move somewhere you really wanna be.
I think paybands for yahoo is by location so moving out of NYC would mean less pay.
yahoo gig sounds like a dream
Just give you a heads-up: Bloomberg is trying to let all of the employees return to office for 4 days a week in Oct.
It will eventually be 5 days.. matter of time
All employees or just team leads?
Why do you want to leave dropbox?
Dumb question. He got laid off
Bloomberg is a good company. However if I was in ur shoe I wud take yahoo just because of the fully remote option. I used to be fully remote at my previous company and I miss that now. So why the heck did I join bbg. Cuz the money was significantly better than what I was making before. In your case the difference between yahoo and bbg is not significant.
Second this
it depends on what's important to know. blindly evaluating the offer, I'd go with BBG. but if, working remotely for example, is higher on your priority list then obviously yahoo is more preferable. it's difficult to "evaluate" offers because different components have varying degrees of importance to different people.
Remote, onsite, hybrid? You can work around CoL and make better judgement
