* This is an updated post as the original had to be deleted for personal reasons * I was fired from Facebook. Not because I wasn’t good enough - I was. Not because I violated any policy - I didn’t. I was fired because a colleague that didn’t like me, filed a false complaint about me. The experience I went through left me suffering from PTSD and months of intensive psychological treatments didn’t improve anything. You need to understand, I was always very mentally stable. I never needed to see a psychologist before, never suffered from anxiety, never had sleeping disorders and I always taken life easily. What Facebook did to me - changed everything. I can’t elaborate about the specific details of the case because of confidentiality, but imagine the following scenario: You’re working on your computer and suddenly receive an email with the title “URGENT”. You open it and in front of your eyes you discover that an undercover investigation took place in the last weeks. The accusations are really vague but you feel like the world is falling apart. Maybe they mistaken you for being Pablo Escobar, but for some reason they decided to silently and secretly conduct an investigation with MANY of your colleagues, to try to dig up some dirt on you. On the meanwhile, you’re suspended and waiting for your investigation without having a clue what you did. Investigation starts - questions are being asked. You have no idea where these questions came from as they don’t tell you who they actually investigated. “Did you ever tell anyone this and that?”. “Did you ever do this and that?”. Absurd questions. Some completely fictional, some are just a ridiciouls distortion of something completely legitimate you once said. Just from the questions you understand what’s going on. The investigator is trying to incriminate you, and because she didn’t have a “smoking gun” she decided to gather as much shit about you as she could. When she didn’t find anything, she decided to alter the answers she squeezed from your colleagues in order to paint a demonic picture of you, just enough to get you fired. It doesn’t matter you deny everything. It doesn’t matter you have lots of evidence to refute some of the allegations. NOTHING MATTERS. You’re in the hands of the investigator and she is the judge, jury and executioner. Then you wait, and you wait and you wait. You never know when the results will be ready. The novelist is working on her masterpiece while covering up any evidence that might incriminate her. She needs plausible denial in case something goes south. In my case it took about a week. A week of tears. A week of pain. A week of anxiety. A week with no sleep. Then I received the final letter. She have found me “guilty as charged”… OH WHAT A SURPRISE... I think all of us human beings have a fundamental belief in justice embedded in our DNA. Most of us live in democratic countries, and even though corruption is something we hear about in the news, it’s unimaginably hard to accept that a whole system will turn against you one day, especially when it’s your workplace. Facebook is not a normal workplace. You’re sugar coated and handled with kid gloves. “Employees are our First Priority” is what they tell you in your first days. You might think you’re in Disneyland but you’re actually an Oompa Loompa in Charlie’s Chocolate Factory. One bright day a virtual claw can burst behind you, pick you up, and throw you away. In a split second the shield dissolves. In a split second you turn from a “family member” to “public enemy number one”. As a disclaimer, I'll add that I never talked with those collegues since the investigation as Facebook forbid me to contact them. I don't have a proof that the investigator invented those allegations, I'm just using my common sense that multiple employees that had a great relationship with me, had no reason to invent those crazy lies about me. If I need to point out the motive for the investigator's actions, I would imagine a power trip mixed with her need to show "impact" in her Performance Summary Cycle made her do it. Anyway, I just really needed to get this off my chest. I wish you all the best ! #layoff #facebook
Do you need visa?
Have you had any personal relationship with her?
With the investigator? I never met her before
at least now you can pursue your true passion of novel writing. what a bizarre tale. bravo.
Lol nice!
You called it before the actual fraud evidence came up haha. https://www.quora.com/What-does-it-feel-like-to-be-fired-from-Facebook/answers/224518154?ch=10&oid=224518154&share=b0555cde&target_type=answer
This does sound fictitious. But if it’s true then hey…Better not to work in such toxic places. Move on and know that not all companies are like this. You’ll find something better.
I promise you it's true, and thanks I'm already working in another place. The story isn't new but I still see they haven't even fired the investigator for her actions. I'm trying to think what else can I do to protect the next victims from her.
Makes no sense.
Why is there always a toxic person questioning a legitimate testimony? Can't you accept some people are willing to do anything to bring you down for futile reason? Have you never stepped outside of your bedroom and believe everyone is friendly, nice and honnest? Grow up, you need it.
Calm down. It’s the internet. If you believe everything 1 side posted online then you’re pretty naive.
You will come out stronger. Often unexpected life events trigger weird emotional response in us. You have been through a lot and you feel cheated. It is alright to feel so. Soon this will heal. Hugs to you. Wishing you happy days back.
cool.. finding some one throwing salt to the wound makes op more trustworthy
Sounds like a made up story. We don’t use or read emails at Facebook.
HR doesn’t use email or ticketing systems to reduce liability?
There must be some internal system for this. I spoke with HR a few times and never had emails from them.
Your story is also very vague
Can you sue?
^^ This .. if anything this country is great at lawsuits .. find a lawyer with low moral values and start shaking the tree till something falls.. am sure they just settle out of court for couple Mill$.
It sounds like they accepted a severance package that required them to not contact any former coworkers. Idk why else they wouldn’t be allowed to if they don’t work there anymore.
