The perfect storm: a tech lead and product manager colluding to axe u. A pm that says ur going too slow and a tech lead who keeps on not including u in meetings and group chats with the tickets you’re working on. Whatcha gonna do
Create an email with all these details, screenshots if you have and send an email to company leadership.
The company leadership is who fired me…. ? They’re sick of listening to anything i say, so it feels futile to waste more breath Idk if it’s too prideful or what, but I’m not about to grovel to these people for my job back. I have had plenty of opportunities from recruiters over the last year I’ve ignored. I am okay looking for new work. I was looking and applying for jobs for the last 2 months anyways bc this tech lead just is not my cup of tea
then move on. they don't like you. you don't like them. that's it
That situation would be a marked improvement from my own.
I had some slip ups in this firing too, this post is just my rant. Now I get to look forward to this kinda dialogue with recruiters and I get marked out of interviews for “bad character fit” 🤗 Recruiter: why did u leave ur last job? Me: interpersonal conflict Recruiter: And the one before that? Me: interpersonal conflict
Why not just say looking for better opportunities and work culture? Which is true for your case anyways. You need to be able to give a positive turn to the truth. An art that all of us need to develop.
lc and find a better company, what else can you do?… and never tell recruiters about this brah
TC?
Obviously zero now
Yes bro. Such stupids exists anywhere. Even I too got fired as my manager was too asshole to fight for his team. It’s a unicorn with 1.5B valuation SaaS fintech for namesake. Stupids everywhere
Been there!
Dude such Shit happens, life goes on. Don't cling to this experience. You'll be stronger with the learnings.💪 Dm me for referral in Amazon anytime.
Oh thanks so much
Move on. You will be in a better place. Never have attachment to ur company. They pay you work. End of story. Especially when it is not your role to change things.
Fuck it
Fuuuuck it… I had a call with a recruiter yesterday and the salary range they said in their email after the call for a remote “data engineer” role was “up to 140/hr”,….. and im probs not going to get the job but that number is significantly higher than what I was making before and it’s giving me confidence to try to turn this shit show into a raise. Sunnova was a full remote job though which was sooooooo nice. So many roles that pay more if I move but moving sounds like so much work and most roles don’t offer relo benefits without “golden handcuffs” of having to pay back the relo money if you quit in a year or whatever. Then locally onsite the main job opportunities I have are in the auto industry which is its own pile of dung with the wages they pay, and my dissatisfaction with working in an industry everyone in my town works at is very high. Was offered $96/hr from GM a year ago and $80/hr by ford, and didn’t take them. Idk if I would now or not if those numbers flash my inbox again
It is what it is, it be like that sometimes. Just keep looking forward and move on
Such a weird scenario where I was the one that reported a prod bug with our databases being incorrect. I was asking for access to the database for weeks to see if my hunch was right, but I wasn’t getting access so I kept having to go through an application support person with sql queries. And then once management went delulu running around trying to fix the prod bug that meant our system was practically unusable I got left in the dust. No invites to prod meetings for the tickets I was assigned, and a pm giving backhanded comments during standup that “at least the tech lead does anything” inferring I wasn’t productive…? Even though I was the one that informed their ignorant ass of what is broken in prod…? There’s soooooooooo much more to it or buildup and passive aggression between the tech lead and I, but a lot of it imo stems from the amount of turnover this team I was on had. Within 2 months the consultants with the most knowledge on the product/app left and my manager with soooooo much more experience than this tech lead all quit. All of the sudden I was the most senior person on the team but with the lowest job title lol. I was teaching all the new hires how to connect to databases, get test data, work with salesforce, etc— and it was ALL time consuming. Especially for this tech lead who just didn’t listen to my comments sometimes, and then when would ask the same question in different flavors a week later in a dif group chat were both in. I then told them “hey, I don’t have time to answer every one of your questions at all hours of the day”, and he just lost it. Then he said something was broken bc our heroku config vars were off and I had to tell him no ur wrong in the main group chats since he refused to actually meet in a call with me unless it was me prompting the call to apologize bc his feelings get hurt when his uniformed and over confident ass is educated. I’m so torn on it all. I don’t want the team to fail and I don’t even hold much of a grudge against management— like I don’t want the app or team to fail, like I would if I were fired from a restaurant or other job idk. I think I may have gotten the axe bc of the prod outage. It was a week outage and I think the company lost a LOT of respect from their franchise/dealer network. Since they have to go around and tell them “Oopsies if u want to get ur solar panel insulation approved for ur commission pay out u have to redo it in our app bc the database was off”. Which is also WRONG. These dumbass leaders can’t even put the dots together that the data from these dealers isn’t gone since it was pointing to a database, just the wrong one. Alas- I’m fired now so they can go make a fool of themselves asking the dealers to do this. I 🍩 care and wish I could just say less and get this experience out of my head now. I took screen caps of the entire app since they didn’t restrict my access to my computer fast enough and now I’m going to add parts of it to my portfolio to just point to it and say “I made this”, and whatever screenshot of the app (that is blocked behind a login paywall).
Sounds you've had a pretty bad experience. Thanks for sharing. Only thing we can say is it'll pass. You will forget. There's always work. There's always something better to build with better people. Just learn what you can so you keep improving and give your best on your next gig.
