I’ve had membership to First Tech Credit Union offered at a few jobs. Anyone have experience and think they are better than other common options (Schwab, Ally). I would consider them for checking, savings, CDs, and possibly a home loan (I’d shop around for the best rate). If you’ve had good experiences, what makes them better?
I like credit unions, just happier being in a place that isn't making a bunch of money off of me. I've not had any issues with First Tech, they have a decent app, online bill pay, etc, all the things you would expect from a bank. They had a lot of this stuff before most of the mainstream banks. They don't have that many branches but if you are out of their typical area there is a "Co-op Network" that lets you treat a lot of other credit unions like a virtual branch to get things like cashier checks, etc. Interest rates on savings still suck, but I think that's pretty universal outside specific high yield savings accounts. Overall have had no negative issues over a many year relationship, which feels like it's better than most of the people I know who have used big banks or online banks.
Joined in 1991 (you read that right) and have been happy since. Good, solid, no fees credit union.
I believe they still send statements typed by dot-matrix printer or IBM typewriter
