Am I crazy to go with an unicorn start up instead of a faang company? Will going with Flexport instead of Amazon hurt my resume in the long run? Current TC: 80k YOE: 1.5 #swe #software
Did you negotiate your amazon offer?
Yes, originally they offered TC 180.
Be careful, the Seattle Flexport office has a lot of ex-Amazon people. Flexport shares are trading close to $20 on the private markets.
Seattle office has a lot of ex Amazon, Microsoft, few Google and lot of we-work folks as well. What's the point here? Majority of tech work force In Seattle has at some point worked in Amazon/Microsoft and while I agree Amazon culture is the worst, Seattle office is far from that.
Choosing Flexport is an absolute no brainer here. I have been at Amazon before and currently at Flexport. Let alone the IPO potential and unicorn status, wlb and work culture is much much better here. Also, you can always crack Amazon again. They don't have the highest bar in recruiting 🤷
I'd go with flexport for the stock appreciation post IPO. I would ask Amazon to match flexport. Then use that updated offer to ask flexport to match. You can always go back to Amazon, as long as you reject the offer on good terms.
You're not the only one. I had L5 offer from Amazon too. But, I joined for Flexport. In Feb/Mar 2021, Flexport Shares was $10-15 in secondary market. Today It shows $20. Remember - high risk, high reward.
Where can you see the price in the secondary market?
Work life balance is so good at flexport. Don’t go to Amazon
Hi congrats on your offers! Would you mind sharing your prep for coding and sys. design? Were most of your coding questions medium difficulty? Thank you in advance.
Amazon is hell
