Groupon -> 22.5 TC including Rsu Helpshift -> 25 TC exluding Esop Current Tc -> 9 Yoe-> 2.5 I am little confused as groupon is not doing great lately and the team is also not that welcoming what i felt. on the other hand I have never heard about Helpshift as it is a startup and I checked crunchbase for the info, the funding they have recieved till now seems quite low, but the team seems really nice and the Graduates they hire are from the tier-1 colleges. Pleas give some advice #software #startup #technology #help #equity
Groupon hasn’t been doing great for several years now. It was famous for a couple of years and that was it.
I'd avoid Groupon. It was a good place to work. Now there is lot's of attrition. KTLO work. Poor stock performance. Go there if you want great wlb.
I largely agree with teckie, but I'm not as pessimistic on the future. I think the equity and bonus will probably pay about what is offered in the next few years. The company culture and values are actually quite good. It is mostly KTLO work though right now as the pandemic continues to subside, but hiring is picking up alot. It's a good place right now to grow your career quickly too if you want to put alot of energy into it. If I was you I would try to get Groupon to counter offer with the other offer. If it works or if you value WLB, culture, and/or growth it might be the place for you. If not just take the startup offer, looks like your early in your career, you can take on the risk of a startup and just learn a ton.
How is the work with respect to the product development ? as my utmost priority is to learn, what do you suggest now?
Never heard of Helpshift but if they're smaller you could have a chance of working on more impactful projects. Groupon company culture is good and WLB is strongly encouraged. Some top managers are frankly just not that good, which comes down in the form of various projects that waste time but tick boxes. Lots of internal systems to learn without a lot of documentation, and many of the people who had the most knowledge left for other companies. That's supposed to be changing and moving things towards 3rd party software but will probably still take a few years before things are fully switched over.
My motive is to learn and do the challenging product development did you see that happening in Groupon?
In what country and unit? Definitely this is not in $k
I assumed it's lakhs
LPA India
Go to Groupon. Awesome company
Probably very few teams have moderate work else it's absolutely KTLO work. If you like scale and tech challenges then Groupon is not the right place. Most of the good manager left Groupon long time back and if anyone is there probably they are already planning to quit. Great WLB. Great FBP. Good vacation policy.
25k? What currency is that?
No, we are talking about lakhs(INR). These companies are in banglore, India
25 lakhs INR (1lakh = 100k ; $1 USD = ~72 INR)
If your only priority is learning, I would suggest you to pass both and look for another company. If you have to choose go with Groupon, but try negotiating your offer, you can definitely get more.
How is Helpshift in wlb? Any idea? And how are the tech stack?
My assumption: Java, Clojure, Mongo, Aws, Kafka
And wlb?
