I am a technical product owner in my current role and have been checking out similar roles at Apple. Job description for Program Manager is very similar to my current role (bit less technical) but in my current company, program managers have a completely different profile. If you work at Apple or are familiar with roles at Apple, please comment. #Apple #programmanager #productmanager Current Base: 115k
☝️ this. They are no way the same roles. They just both have the word "manager" in the titles.
No manager literally means you manage something. In this case it’s managing a program.
Yes, and neither role manages people. One manages products and one manages projects.
I’m not at Apple, but Program & Product managers are very different roles. In very short & high level, As a Program Manager you are likely: - To be an Agile Coach and a master in Agile frameworks like SAFe which are frameworks for organizational delivery(not the basic team level stuff). It usually comes with them being really good in tools like Jira & Excel, with strong presentation skills. - To do lots of project management but on a bigger scale, much beyond team level. On group/division/org kind of scope. You’ll have to be an extremely good communicator as you have no authority but need to lead things on massive scale. As a Product Manager you are likely: - to champion the customer requirements. Understand the market and competition. Work with marketing, sales, and support on customer deals. Plan the product roadmap and work with R&D and Design on delivering it. Track analytics to understand usage patterns and make decisions based on that data.
Thank you for the response. This cleared my doubt. Based on your explanation my current role is a perfect blend between the two. Program management might not be something I am seeking for ATM.
